It's almost time for Global Accessibility Awareness Day and I can finally share my thesis in an accessible format 🎉

Due to the mandatory template used, the thesis PDF is not accessible. So there was no way I was going to share it with the world. It took a year, but I managed to create a website with an #accessible #version of the 160-pages thesis on #AccessibilityOverlays, and some additional content!

2024 is the year I step out of my comfort zone. 😶

I am thrilled to share that I'll do my first-ever talk in exactly one month at the @a11yclub Summit in Amsterdam! 🎤🎉

I'll share insights from my master's thesis on #AccessibilityOverlays, which I've worked on over the past one and a half years. My talk details the impact #accessibility overlays have on #usability and #UserExperience.

I'm happy to announce that my #MasterThesis received a #scholarship from the AK Salzburg! 🎉

I'm so grateful because it enables me to give something back to all the study participants who gave their free time without any compensation due to the limited financial possibilities. 🙏🏻

The thesis investigates the impact of #AccessibilityOverlays on #UX and #usability for individuals with visual impairments. Findings will be published in 2024.

Accessibility widgets are not reducing lawsuits according to UsableNet’s Web and App ADA Lawsuits mid-year report. “The number of lawsuits against companies using accessibility widgets increased slightly in 2023. ... This trend suggests that accessibility widgets may not provide sufficient protection against litigation.”

Today I must decide which three #AccessibilityOverlays I will use in my user study next week. Not an easy task per se, as so many options exist. 😬

It’s official; I am writing my master's thesis about #AccessibilityOverlays 🎉

My universities accepted the topic, and I’m super thrilled about it. I have roughly half a year to complete the thesis, hopefully resulting in some valuable contribution to the community.

I received valuable feedback and positive words from both universities. If everything goes well with the ethics board and all other formalities, I’m going to write about #AccessibilityOverlays 🙊 I’m very excited about the deep dive into the topic I’m about to do.

I've basically made it a life mission to get companies to drop #AccessibilityOverlays and link them to https://overlayfactsheet.com whenever I encounter them in the wild, or more unfortunately when I run into one on a site for a product or service I really want to use. I even throw in some quick #a11y guidance and a little audit of my experience for free to start them on their way to understand #remediation and the overall experience of using #AssistiveTechnology on the web as a #Disabled user.

@developerjustin I was wondering if those #accessibilityOverlays were legit. Good to know.
