  2. My first isukatsugi rabbeted joint to make a longer board from scrap

    Learned that I need to account for the kerf and cut half a millimeter off the line, and always cut with both hands: the worst, wobbly cut was when I had one hand an the handle, another to stabilize the blade od my #dozuki. Not needed!

  7. Did really nobody with #xcodegen run into issues building iOS projects?

    <rdar://113405968> building for 'iOS', but linking in dylib (/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/SDKs/MacOSX14.4.sdk/usr/lib/libSystem.B.tbd) built for 'macOS macCatalyst zippered(macOS/Catalyst)'

    May also be another dylib next time. It's weird that there's not a lot of search results on the web for this

  8. Sorry if I know anyone who works on the #Descript app -- I love editing recordings based on audio transcripts. But editing video is absolute, hot garbage

  9. If I don't spend time for the gym membership anymore, maybe I should save up ~2k and get a used concept2 #rowerg and a rack of sorts

  10. The Composable Architecture friends, how do you name your swipe actions on iOS?

    I'm seeing `___ButtonTapped` for buttons, but what about swipe to delete?

    Do you call it `deleteButtonTapped` because the swipe is just a variation of invoking the button's action?

    What about other swipe actions? 👀

  11. I can get small plywood sheets in a nearby DIY market to make sides for open shelves we have. I need to cut them into slices width-wise, ok; but I would also need to join them length-wise. The only way I know is with half-lap joints. But I'm talking about sheets, not boards, so only a couple of millimeters thick (maybe 5mm).

    Can't use dowels at that side, either.

    What to do, what do do.

  12. Anyone here using #clangd and clang-format for #cpp and could help me with a format setting that would make operator chains put one per line?

    Imagine this is too long for 1 line:

    foo().bar().baz()

    I want to chain transformers like so:

    foo()
    .bar()
    .baz()

    But with LLVM settings, clang-format currently tries to use as few lines as possible, so I get either

    foo().bar()
    .baz()

    or

    foo()
    .bar().baz()

    depending on where I hit return with auto-formatting enabled

  13. Anyone got the #ZSA #Moonlander platform?

    It's not a looker, but it's really sturdy and easy to adjust.

    However, for a neutral, relaxed angle in my arms, I need to move the desk down so far that the desktop touches my legs; couldn't sit there on a normal chair anymore.

    I don't recall having unusually long upper arms like an ape, so how do y'all manage?

  15. @PypeBros Yeah, HackerNews is like that.

    "When you upload or input information through Firefox, you hereby grant us a nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use that information to help you navigate, experience, and interact with online content as you indicate with your use of Firefox."

    That doesn't sound like typing into the browser's address bar, but into text fields (and file upload)

    In der Familie tut sich bald vielleicht eine #Mehrgenerationen Chance auf, und da wäre eine Beratung hinsichtlich der #Nachhaltigkeit und Kostenstruktur so eines Neubaus relevant.

  17. I'm disappointed in the performance of a makeshift #crochet with my pull saws for ripping wood. Without a wedge and a clamp, there's not enough material to hold a workpiece.

    Tried with a small piece that can turn on an axis: A board could be fastened in another place and that might help.

    Still I wonder what low roman #workbenches might have used to hold a board for ripping so that its thickness is halved?

  22. How to Resaw with Just a Hand Saw youtube.com/watch?v=dPgVYTwQ5Wc

    Hot take:

    a frame saw is ergonomically the Western equivalent of a Japanese #Ryoba.

    Frame saw in this video cuts on the push stroke, but is used with two hands: one left, one right, shoulder wide or so, so you can really push at a strong angle.

    Ryoba, used with two hands, pulled towards your center, also makes straight cuts ergonomic. Only on the pull stroke.

  23. Sins of Carthage: #RxSwift Re-Entrancy, Undetected christiantietze.de/posts/2025/

    I mixed ReSwift (which doesn't mind if you dispatch an action that updates the state from within a subscription) with RxSwift (to manage observable subscription lifetimes) in a naive way -- and only now got the bill handed to me.

    Reentrancy!
