Descript - my AV editor of choice - now has an API and MCP in beta mode to play around with.

I love the idea of using simple prompts to get the basics together in a project with a first pass of the edit using their existing Underlord features.

If you’re running low on storage, don’t forget to check how many projects #Descript might have on your hard drive. You can clear local cache if you’re not working on them anymore. The files are still backed up on Descript’s servers unless you delete the projects.

So glad I was listening to the podcast "It's A Thing" where they were discussing Descript's decent into AI Slop hell. @mranthropology mentioned that Descript lost the SquadCast.fm domain. I went to look and, they sure did. Holy shit balls. I hope they figure this out because I have recordings in that system that I need to get into Descript to edit... this WEEK!

My mistake in using the wrong pronouns for @keenan in my blog post meant I needed to fix the audio version of my blog posts I sometimes do.

Which unintentionally turned into a great demo for how easy it is to do quick fixes like this if you edit your podcast with an app like #Descript.

Attached is a quick before / after of part of the recording. It took me longer to record the demo video than it did to fix the recording. 😆

Two open source alternatives I'm looking forward to:
1. Canva
2. Descript

Canva:
• Community plugins that extend its functionality
• Various formats that can be imported/exported freely from Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
• No vendor lock-in
• Unlimited storage

Descript:
• Self-hosted for unlimited storage and local AI processing
• Unlimited transcription hours

Fellow #Descript users: Have any of y'all noticed the transcription getting worse?

The last few podcast episodes I've edited have had *long* gaps with no detected speech where people are clearly speaking. It’s annoying.

fellow podcast editors: is it my imagination or has today's Descript update enhanced the audio engine, especially in how it handles tiny crossfades in split clips + removed/ignored filler words? it seems to be a dramatic improvement though there's no mention of this in the update docs

Anybody experienced with #Descript who could answer a basic question about combining multiple #audio files into a multitrack sequence? #podcasting

The #Descript app to transcribe audio is really nice. Voice recognition and editing the text to affect the audio without any seams, that's amazing!

I'm so bad at editing *anything* in general, though, that I struggle to complete any project.

I start with a script; so I have the text handy, but can't figure out how to make Descript match the audio (recorded externally) to it.

I'm not looking forward to shoot and cut video to match, either 😬

I like how #Descript chose “none of the above” when faced with “make your effects not suck” vs “support VST plugins.” VST is probably not feasible because they run in the browser and how would that even work?

Speaking of, I get a lot of questions about #Descript, the audio editing/transcription tool I use. If anyone is curious about it and ever wants a brief intro or tutorial, I’d be glad to share what I’ve learned. I love it and would love to help get other people into it as well.

I keep giving #Descript a try but I think I’m too particular and it’s missing too many features I consider kind of basic.

It’s weird. It *seems* like #Descript should give me better and faster results than #LogicPro when editing a podcast, but that really doesn’t seem to be the case.

Probably if I wasn’t already comfortable using a DAW that would be true, but I’ve been using Logic so long it’s just easier for me to do the kind of editing I want to that way.

Exporting a video from #Descript on my #Mac is suuuuper slow.

It's not using any of my bazillion GPU cores. It's also an Electron app. I wonder if they could even fix this if they wanted to?

As someone with more than 20 years in the #VideoProduction industry (who now is a team of one producing #YouTube content for myself and a few others), I gotta say that #Descript is a revolution. In addition to lightning-fast (and fairly accurate) #transcripts, #Descript really does make rough editing as simple as typing, backspacing, copying, and pasting.

I have a lot to learn ... but for now, i'm enjoying a great big helping of #AwesomeSauce every time I open it.
