  4. Yesterday's #interfaith conference on creation care was worth 8 hours of driving. I had lunch with a Gayogoho:no grandmother and heard about the battles her people face right here in New York. I experienced Shabbat with a rabbi and heard folks from Islam, Baha'i, and the Presbyterian church answer some tough questions about #ClimateChange. Ambassador #MapTurtle Declan was cute as always while I shared about the spirituality of tender encounters with wildlife and the crisis of #BiodiversityLoss.

  9. Another turtle is in the house. This lucky little painted turtle has only a minor crack and sore back legs. He has some pain and anti-inflammatory meds on board to help with that. Yesterday's snapping turtle was 23lbs/10kg, making her the biggest adult currently in care. (I have some that spent the winter with me to allow more time for healing.) At 6oz/162g, this little guy is the smallest adult here now.

    Keep watching out for turtles.

  10. For the second year in a row, my turtle rehab season began on Easter weekend. This year's first turtle was a wee painted turtle hatchling with poor timing. He emerged from the nest where he spent winter and headed for a lake that still had ice on it. Luckily a family was playing on the beach, a youngster spotted him, and an adult called for help. He'll get first class accommodations for a few months while he grows a bit and will be released in summer.

  11. I have a "home security" camera pointed at my feeders that alerts me when the squirrels are there (so I can give them more food and say hi). An added bonus is getting to review the motion capture video to see who visits while I'm sleeping. Last night, it was the Trash Twins for the first time since autumn.

  12. My daughter, an EMT, just started full time with our county EMS and that means lots of grandbaby-sitting for me. While she is busy saving human lives, I've got a 15 month old assistant in the "wildlife ambulance." His first rescue was an injured screech owl who was safely delivered to a raptor rehabilitator. Not many calls this time of year, but it's good that we can practice car seat and animal carrier logistics before turtle nesting season starts.

  13. Blessed Imbolc, dear ones. In ceremony I burned the Yule greens to declare that I trust the Earth's cycles and have faith that spring will return even if, according to the groundhog, we have to wait six more weeks.

  14. Raining here, washing away the snow and turning what remains into ice. This is my least favorite winter weather. My friends aren't crazy about it either.

  15. Welcomed the light back on the first morning of winter with the candle that burned through the longest night. Then I hurried to take a picture because the nuthatch who is regularly the first at the feeders was getting impatient. I live to serve the wild ones.

  16. I have been wondering if there were flying squirrels around, because they are native here but I haven't seen one. The squirrel cam finally confirmed there is one.

  17. "Electric youth" - Debbie Gibson

A very energetic dance routine with a couple of male backing dancers, all wearing some very fashionable waistcoats, and they make very effective use of the small stage available.

Young Debs sings about how the future is about her generation.

Her generation - mine as well - are coming just as soon as boomers move over.

Go on, boomers, take your hands off the levers of power. Now is good.
