Bhavna and I were standing at the edge of the new pond at Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve. I had my camera in hand, photographing the dragonflies, damselflies, and butterflies. The pond, crammed with water lilies, reflected the surrounding greenery. But something else caught Bhavna’s eye.

Last turtle healed enough to go home wandered back down to his brook today. I wish that meant I was done for the year but I have a few who weren't ready and had three intakes in the past week who will need to spend the winter with me. It's been an emotionally challenging season with too many losses. But watching a turtle who was hit by a car a few months ago swim away to keep living his life makes the rough stuff worth it.

I've read about butterflies drinking turtle tears (mmmm salt!) but could find no record of damselflies doing this.
Seems like that's happening here? Unless the damselfly just enjoys perching on turtle noses, which seems like a very good life indeed.
