There are few things that bother me more in my industry than support tickets being closed without confirmation from the customer that the issue has been addressed. This is •especially• true when the response from support demonstrates a complete lack of grasp of the problem in the first place. It’s the ultimate “shut up and go away” move. #NetEng #Sigh #Support

One of the silly excuses used to justify avoiding #IPv6 deployments: The addresses are too hard to remember. Here’s a thought: Maybe if the addresses are •really• hard to remember, people will stop configuring them directly into client configurations and we won’t have to go finding broken stuff when the service moves. #Grr #NetEng

I didn't •mean• to do it, but while going down many rabbit holes this week I switched over from EVE-NG to #ContainerLab. Took a bit to get the SSH keys and jumps working the way I wanted to, but they work. #EdgeShark is amazing, though I had to learn more about Go than I ever wanted to so I could rebuild cshargextcap to properly support mDNS. Write-up will be forthcoming. #NetEng

There’s always another 🕳️ to go down. Now it’s a packet-level analysis of raw L2TPv3 pseudowires vs UDP encapsulated ones to find out •why• the raw ones come in with a lower automatic MTU than the UDP ones do. On the surface, this makes no sense. #NetEng #Labbing #L2TP #MTU #TunnelsAllTheWayDown

The problem with labbing cool networking ideas? Rabbit holes. Every step along the way, there’s another “Oh! Wouldn’t it be better if I integrated •this• idea?” Taking the red pill leads to a fun day of network geekery, but doesn’t get me any closer to the original goal. The “Simplicity where possible. Complexity where necessary.” mantra applies long before we get to the design stage. #NetEng #Labbing #RabbitHole #KISS
