The rain (and mountain snow,) California's first atmospheric river event of the winter season, is just starting here in the desert east of Los Angeles. Just before it began, I caught this panning shot of the mountains wreathed in clouds.

Because our home is in a 55+ community, it means we never see trick-or-treaters!
But when we lived in Vallejo it was different, our neighborhood was so popular with ghouls and monsters that parents would drive kids over. We'd go through 4 or 5 big bags of treats every year. I miss them.

One night I heard meowing outside the door. It was a little black cat, hungry, friendly, older and a bit worse for wear. I'd guess she had been someone's kitty and was abandoned. One of her fangs was missing.
We brought her in and fed her, and she became part of the family. kd fang
She lived 4 more happy years with us, and crossed the bridge on this day 14 years ago*. Happy #BlackCatAppreciationDay Ms.fang!

The Birdcage (1996) is not just a terrific movie, but a great time capsule of fun cars.
When we watched last night, I knew I had to capture this rarity: a Yugo convertible. It's at the curb behind Nathan Lane and Robin Williams. Just 4 seconds.
I had to take a video of our TV with my phone, sorry for quality.

The front that has brought lots of rain to California coastal areas today has brought dramatic skies to the desert and the Coachella Valley where we live.
This view, from our community clubhouse, is to the east. The lower, closer mountains are in full sunlight with a rainbow, while the Little San Bernardino Mountains behind them appear destined for rain .
Only a few actual drops here in Rancho Mirage.
