I've always thought independent #media would have an effect on the populace by informing them, but I don't think it can ever have the same effect as legacy media.
Legacy media has a hold on people's minds causing people to consider it as some kind of authority of what is or is not #news.
Even if people are aware of the deceptions and #propaganda of corporate news, people still partly trust it, or need it to gauge the importance of a story.
Literally, it's not a controversy unless corporate media say so.
I think therefore all the U-turns and changes to policy by politicians needs to be thought of within that paradigm.
In some cases politicians rely on a false confected controversy to push through the policies they really wanted to in the first place.
In other cases, politicians will step down because they know of the power of legacy media and know that unless they do what the lobbying corporations want them to do, the controversy won't go away.
Compare that to real crimes highlighted by independent #journalists and how war crimes and atrocities committed by the West don't become controversial issues and the politicians are not forced into a U-turn or forced to act in any way.

Presumably they shied away from that confrontation because it would have suggested that they were holding Jews collectively responsible for the actions of the Israeli government."

There are lots of tips for #writers about do this and don't do that, but one thing that is very important is to be aware of homophones.
There and Their are common ones but there are actually a lot more (depending on your accent) than you might first realise.
course/coarse, hanger/hangar, led/lead, etc.
It's so very easy to miss these, even if you know the correct spelling.
Not only that, there are also words of similar spelling that mean very different things. I posted a toot the other day about the words Torturous and Tortuous. But there are also things like Tentative and Attentive.
And stupid spellcheck won't spot any of these!
