Ah yes, the profound #insights of 2023: a deep dive into the arcane mysteries of #Unix spell-checking, foiled by the dark sorcery of disabled JavaScript! 🤦♂️👏 Apparently, the real challenge isn't fitting spell in 64kB, but getting a browser to cooperate. 🍪🔮

Open source wizards, OHOY!
Could you harp on and tell me if this spellchecker is safe to use?
writewithharper.com
I need an alternative for Grammarly and ProWritingAid since they are so full of AI - and was recommended this one.
But I have the same amount of brain cells as a banana fly, so I don't know how to verify that it is safe to use.
Help? (^_^)*

🖼️🎨 Oh, the magical "nave" art world, where spelling is optional and redundant page sections are the true masterpieces. Dive into this spiral of self-repeating tours and nonexistent email addresses—truly a modern marvel of web design! 😂📧

*In memory of the man who put red and green squiggles under words*
"Tony Krueger is remembered in Wikipedia as the person who ported the game Chip’s Challenge to Windows for the Windows Entertainment Pack.¹ But that’s probably not the code he wrote that touched the most people."

Danke 👍

“There’s not a single word about ‘permission’ in that statement, and no sign that Grammarly is walking back the idea. It sounds like the company fully intends to keep pretending real human beings are behind its edits, just with ‘greater control’.”

Again, I wish one could remove words from the #spellcheck dictionary in Kate text editor, not just add them. If I type "wether," it's either a typo for "whether" or "weather."
A "wether" is "a castrated goat/ram," a word I assure you I'm never talking about. The spellchecker won't flag it.

If #AI is so wonderful why can't #spellcheck tell the context a word is being used in ?

OK Firefox spell checker, my bad it's "car park" two words, not one. But what are the chances of someone writing "carp ark"? Maybe the fish prophet receiving a Lovecraftian covenant from Dagon?!
And "cark" was a new word to me - evidently Aussie slang for "die".

I'm going to start keeping track of words gDocs makes up. These are suggested spelling corrections, only the suggested word does not exist in English. It's just statistically probable.
On one hand, highlights just how many "pseudowords" are available (i.e. they follow phonetic rules for English but don't have any semantics attached), on the other, super distracting from doing actual writing.
Today's entry is "quistible" - I was aiming for quizzical.

Dis Masto (#laquestiondujour )

Does anyone have a decent solution for syncing spell-check dictionaries (custom/user-added words, not the default wordlists) across computers? How about across applications?
It annoys me that I'm constantly adding the same words and abbreviations to the same 3-4 apps on *every* computer I use. Presumably I'm not the only one.
However, this forlorn, decade-old question makes me think that perhaps we really don't have a solution:
