  2. #CSSence #AdventCalendar Day 6

No more off-by-one errors in media queries. The article that turned the most heads this year was also the most fun to write.

  6. #CSSence #AdventCalendar Day 1

Gotta start the advent calendar same way I’ve started the year, with my take on how #CSS has progressed.

    »Is CSS alive?«

(From tomorrow onwards, things won’t be chronological anymore.)

  7. #CSSence #AdventCalendar Day 0 (Announcement)

As mentioned, 2024 has been my best blogging year so far. For the next 24 days, I’ll be posting my 24 favorite articles; that’s as close as I’ll ever get to doing a “year in review”.

  9. I (almost missed and) really enjoyed the first-ever #11tyConf last week.

It had it all: From “_you_ can to that” to “you can do _that_‽”

  10. I guess you know that the new range syntax allows media queries to be more concise. But IMO this isn’t even the best part. Let me explain:

  11. Ah, yes, the inaugural #JSNakedDay.

I didn't have time to prepare anything, but I'll join in spirit. Let me run the numbers for you.

At the time of writing, cssence.com/ has 314 pages, this note already included. 27 of them contain no JS, namely the RSS feeds. Out of the remaining 287 pages, 286 contain JS but function without it. That leaves us with the settings page, the only page with a `<noscript>` block. Don't go there today.

Feel free to browse my site with #JS turned off.

  12. Another #CSS Naked Day is about to end. Once again it’s been a delight to find like-minded people by following the #CssNakedDay and #css_naked_day hashtags. Line length has been the only downside of the day, but even that could’ve been mitigated by looking at sites on mobile only.

Some people admitted to cheating. Usually for a good cause, e.g. charts that would otherwise have been inaccessible.

On one site however (I forgot which) it was about something as simple as …

  13. To prolong the CSS Naked Day festivities, head over to my settings page¹ and change “CND observation” to 50 hours, i.e. whenever it is April 9 somewhere.

  19. 😆 Ah, the #nostalgia of text-based browsers! This writer's love letter to #Lynx and #w3m is a trip down memory lane, where CSS is a four-letter word and *JavaScript* is a myth. 🚀 Spoiler: They don't matter, but hey, enjoy your pixelated, featureless web, grandpa! 🔍
