Okay, that's all I've got of those two color #roving. I've got natural merino that I'm #HandSpinning now. (That's a trip. COMPLETELY different! Like driving a Nissan 300ZX compared to a Subaru. Geeze.)
This bobbin has 2.6 oz. single ply on it now.
Do we store single ply on bobbins? Why do I feel like I need more bobbins? 🤔Any guesses as to how many yards 2.6 oz. would be?
I think when I'm done with the merino, I will ply that with this. Barber pole style.

I have to be careful doing laundry during the #PolarVortex because the washing machine drain pipe is in an outside wall & I dont think they insulated it. So, I have to make sure the inside of the garage and outside is above freezing and the afternoon sun is on this side of the house. (In past winters, I've had floods because I forget. 😬)
So, I just sat there in front of the machine until the first drain cycle drained successfully and #combed all the rest of this color #wool! #FiberArts #Roving

Olen vuosien ajan näihin aikoihin vuodesta, syyskuun alkupuolella tai puolivälissä, varannut itselleni aikaa viikon reissulle jonnekin ulkoilemaan, ja melkein aina olen lähtenyt Lappiin. Niin tänä vuonnakin, tällä kertaa kohteena oli Inarin ja Utsjoen kuntien alueella sijaitseva Muotkatunturin erämaa, jossa ennen en ollutkaan kulkenut, ja jota monien tiedän pitävän suosikkialueenaan.
Enkä ihmettele, upeaa tunturiylänköä ja muutakin vaihtelevaa maastoa riittää loputtomiin, eikä muista kulkijoista juuri ole riesaa. Mitään matkailuinfraa ei itse erämaa-alueella käytännössä ole, paitsi muutama satunnainen poro- tai pyyntikämppä (jotka eivät sattuneeet omalle reitilleni), ja 1960-luvulla puihin merkitty Inarista Karigasniemeen ulottuva reitti, joka on kyllä nykyisinkin ihan hyvin tallattu polku.
Tämän vuoden reissun erityispiirteisiin kuului vuodenaikaan nähden aivan outo lämpö: kun joskus näihin aikoihin tulee jo ensilumi, nyt yölläkin oli toistakymmentä astetta. Onneksi uskoin sääennusteita, ja otin mukaani kesämakuupussin. Lämpötiloista seurasi se, että lentäviä ötököitä oli vuodenaikaan nähden poikkeuksellisen paljon. Yleensä niistä ei ole riesaa, mutta nyt jotkut kuuluivat jopa jättäneen reissunsa kesken niistä suivaantuneena. Onneksi kuivuus ei kuitenkaan ollut riesana, kuten vuosi sitten.
Lähdin liikkeelle illansuussa Muotkanruoktusta, jonka eteen Rovaniemeltä lähtenyt bussi seitsemän tunnin matkan jälkeen sopivasti saapuu, ja kuljin matkalla yöpyen tuntureita pitkin kohti alueen korkeinta tunturia Kuárvikozzâa. Kuárvikozzân läheisyyteen saavuttuani kuitenkin sumu ja pilvisyys oli sen verran kovaa, että jätin sen huiputtamisen tekemättä, ja jatkoin matkaani edelleen kohti suurta Stuorrávžin kanjonia. Stuorrávžista taas lähdin Karigasniemen suuntaan, ja viimeisen päivän kävelyksi tuli peräti 27 kilometriä, koska kun kerran kävellään niin miksi ei käveltäisi kunnolla? Ainoastaan viimeiset kymmenen kilometriä ennen Karigasniemeä olivat aika tylsää ja märkää maastoa, muuten sai kävellä upeissa ja kiinnostavissa maisemissa.
Muotkatunturin erämaahan tulee varmasti toistekin lähdettyä, nyt kun on alue on tullut katsastettua. Karigasniemen Guossi-hotellille annan erityissuosituksen: norjalaisia asiakkaita taitaa olla kiittäminen siitä, että tuollaisessa tuppukylässä on noin tasokas hotelli ja ravintola. Sinne päätin Muotkanruoktulta lähteneen reissuni, kävin suihkussa, syömässä ja vuodevaatteiden välissä nukkumassa, ja aloitin melkein vuorokauden mittaisen kotimatkan.

Olen ottanut tavakseni kerran vuodessa näihin aikoihin varata itselleni viikon omaa lomaa ulkona liikkuen. Yleensä aina Lapissa vaeltaen, mutta olen minä jonkun melontareissunkin Suomenlahdella joskus tehnyt.
Nyt kohteena Muotkatunturin erämaa-alue, jossa en ole ennen käynyt. Nyt yön yli junalla Rovaniemelle ja huomenna vielä kuusi tuntia bussilla. Seuraava yö sitten tarkoitus onkin jo nukkua tunturijärven rannalla.
Sääennuste lupaa lämmintä, yölämpötilakaan ei ennusteiden mukaan laskisi juuri alle kymmenen asteen. Viime vuonna samoihin aikoihin oli Lapissa myös todella lämmin, mutta edellisenä vuonna syyskuun puolessa välissä tuli jo reilusti lunta. Toivottavasti säätila ei pahasti keikahda nyt ennusteista aivan muuksi, sillä mukaan lähti nyt vain aika kevyt makuupussi.

Needle Felting
This craft uses specifically designed notched needles to form wool into different shapes and designs. The notches tangle the wool fibres and cause them to interlock to form firm structures. This versatile craft is perfect for those on a budget.
I started needle-felting with the help of a friend over a year ago, and it has turned into a fun hobby that also helps me make fun gifts for friends.
You can find Ontario roving wool at Flying Squirrel for 15 cents per bundle. And the needles can be purchased online starting at $1.50. You can easily find free patterns online as well.

Crochet and Knitting
Crocheting and knitting is part of the needlecraft family in which you use a hook to create fabric from loops of yarn. Both can be used to make anything from a blanket to a sweater.

Painting
Who doesn’t love a hand-painted piece of art? Check out any dollar store and stock up on paper, paint and paintbrushes without breaking the bank.
Something I like to do is called zen-tangles. To create a zen-tangle, paint a simple shape like a triangle or a square in one colour. The point is to be intentional about each line.
It can be very calm and makes for a beautiful piece of artwork. Cutting up the print and making unique cards out of them is sure to brighten up anyone’s holiday.
Baked goods
Use the holidays as a way to expand your hobbies or practice tried and true ones. For me, baking is one hobby I like to use when the holidays come rolling in.
I like baking Filipino treats for my loved ones during the holidays to show them my appreciation. Making food like puto or biko is a fun way to be creative while also putting in a lot of care into the gift. Puto, a steamed rice cake, is very inexpensive to make and requires ingredients you would already have in the pantry like flour and sugar.

La quête intime du héros se mêle à un contexte politique complexe. C'est beau, c'est intelligent. Un coup de cœur !

It’s a chillingly familiar story which should serve as a reminder for the hosts, users, and developers of decentralized platforms: if you care about privacy, you have to do the work to protect it. We have a chance to do better from the start in the fediverse, so let’s take it. ...

This is an issue that's troubled me since joining the Fediverse in 2016, and as one of the people heavily involved in the "Plexodus" diaspora from the late unlamented #GooglePlus. Whilst large commercial providers have their failure points concerning privacy and law enforcement, they've also often stood up to over-broad attempts to surveil peoples' online activity. Small instances on distributed systems often run as hobbies or very small-scale subscription / donation-based operations might avoid the roving eye of such efforts, but also lack resources, knowledge, and procedures for how to respond when such seizures occur. As the EFF notes, Kolektiva failed to alert its members (and remote contacts) until months after the FBI raid.
The EFF does have a promising guide to legal rights and considerations specifically tailored at the Fediverse:
