Delicious turkey barley soup for lunch. Still excited on day 2, but I predict the big pot of soup will outlast my enthusiasm.
I used this recipe, added sliced mushrooms because I had them. It’s really good. https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1023667-turkey-barley-soup

30 years!!!
I'll bet the lawyers made sure the contracts are without loopholes. What I found interesting and extremely annoying, predatory, is retirement home and LTCs management teams will do their best to figure out a person's income. and raise rents accordingly.
For example every senior receives a government benefit, so when it's increased rents are increased accordingly.
Net result? As inflation increases, the senior's buying power DEcreases. If they are living on government benefits eventually they can't afford to buy new clothing or shoes, replace mattresses or bedding, buy incontinence supplies, and so on.
Imagine not being able to buy a comfortable mattress, or new shoes. It happens. I've seen it.edit:
Here's the fee schedule from the Ontario government
Note: In order to receive a subsidy, for example if one is on ODSP, the government takes away nearly all of your income and leaves the resident with last I heard it was $78.00 a month--that's for soap, shampoo, toilet paper, deodorant, shaving supplies, clothing, shoes, phone and cable, hair cuts, and recreation like books and crafts.

"shovels in the ground?", you asked
Well, this is a disappointing turn of events. Do you remember my mentioning the local people in the area talking about the "huge" LTC under construction?
No wonder I couldn't find the construction site...I was searching for a "huge" piece of land.
Apparently I've walked by the site numerous times- ---they are creating only 64 beds.
The site is so small, I thought a tiny apartment building was under construction.
My citified expectations blurred my vision. The Centre is "taking advantage of Doug Ford's offer to help create 50,000 new long-term beds" but get this, 60 of the 64 beds will be filled by residents from the existing out-dated LTC that will then shut down.
And Ford will be counting the 60 as "New" beds!
