  1. Lewis was on fire last night.

“I’ve had a lot of great experiences in my life but there’s one day I look forward to more than any other - my own funeral. It’s the best. I get flowers, a tailored suit and everything’s about me. And then, the grand finale, being lowered into the ground and having my taint tickled by the worms. Ah, the circle of life!” - Lewis Black

  3. I fuckin love this song; Melanie wrote it after she attended Woodstock in 1969 and it’s kinda timely now.

    So raise the candles high
'Cause if you don't we could stay black against the night
    Oh, raise them higher again
And if you do we could stay dry against the rain

  4. I think Roger’s doin’ more than steroids.

“This supersedes anything that obviously I've done in my playing career,’ Clemens said. ‘And to get it from this man, this president, there wouldn't be another president I'd want to get it from.’
Clemens, who was raised in Houston, said he was honored that the announcement came in Texas and added of Trump: ‘You're talking about a winner. That's a winner right there.’” - Associated Press

  5. Big Bay Point Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast, Big Bay, Michigan, 7 October, 2026. Photo by Hayes Scriven (with permission from the owner)

“Seeing Big Bay Lighthouse surrounded by all those vibrant colors was truly awe-inspiring. There’s just something special about a lighthouse tucked into the middle of a Michigan autumn.” - Hayes Scriven

  6. The morning jam; another of those that showed up while I was living in Minneapolis in late ‘82 and ‘83 and attending radio/television broadcast school at Brown Institute. Goes well with Freddie here.

  10. I like what she’s done with this Donavan tune. And right as the coyotes start their little concert here. How fitting.

  11. Epic stuff Justin Hayward came up with in 1971 musically and otherwise.

Listen to the tide slowly turning
    Wash all our heartaches away
We're part of the fire that is burning
And from the ashes we can build another day

But I'm frightened for your children
That the life that we are living is in vain
And the sunshine we've been waiting for
    Will turn to rain

  12. Another from The Fixx on deck; kinda feelin this 40 years after this one showed up.

At last the place but now where's the time?
To take in all the other points of view
Some are inert but one exists
    To build a bridge

    It doesn't mean much now
    It's Built For The Future

  13. Another great (although the battle scenes are violent so you’re warned if you haven’t seen it) anti-war film was 1987’s “Hamburger Hill” and the brilliant Phillip Glass composed the score; he captured the sheer futility of those 10 days in Vietnam’s Ashau Valley in May of 1969.

  14. I wondered that as well. Then again, I guess I should kinda expect it from a draft dodging shit bird who actually said “I always wanted to get the Purple Heart” and has smiled and given a “thumbs up” at graves of Marines buried in Arlington’s Section 60.

“I wonder how the tens of thousands of US Navy and Marine personnel and their families stationed in San Diego now feel about their POTUS and Commander in Chief willing to let them be obliterated in a nuclear attack?” - Michael Bachman

  15. And/or whatever the fuck Mar A Lago’s address is.

  16. A balmy 63 degrees on deck and I’ll take it after one helluva long day, half of it in meetings and on the road to get to said meetings; the photo doesn’t do it justice but there’s a red sky out there.

  17. RE: mstdn.social/@Strandjunker/117

I know NPR has had stories about what the treasonous FOTUS said at his Nebraska “Nuremberg rally” last night.

  18. A quiet stretch of the mighty Wisconsin River on a sunny fall afternoon taken from State Highway 70 between Eagle River and St. Germain, 6 October, 2026. Photo by moi.

  19. The view down my town road late this morning; it’s been nearly 2 1/2 years since Jagger and I would go for walks on this road and autumn tends to hit a little harder as his gold coat would tend to blend in with the changing fall color. He is so missed around here.

  20. Kinda badass. And UW Madison involved. That makes it even more so.

“The IceCube Neutrino Observatory is a research facility located at the South Pole in Antarctica, according to its website, and the University of Wisconsin–Madison is its lead institution.

Neutrinos are tiny cosmic particles with a mind-bogglingly small mass. Yet they are everywhere: they spew from stars like the sun and trillions zip through our bodies every second.” - Associated Press

  21. This morning’s ear worm.

    Well they blew the horns
    And The Walls Came Down
    They'd all been warned
    But the walls came down
I don't think there are any Russians
    And there ain't no Yanks
    Just corporate criminals
    Playin' with tanks

  22. Jagger and Allie about this time in 2017. I’d love to get another Retriever and actually, I could see this scene returning with a new Golden and Nubs. It’s Gizmo and his reaction I’m still a just little leery of.
