  1. I neeeeeeed this as a storm system approaches on what is otherwise a kickass peaceful evening here on deck. Arguably one of their best songs with a kickass Rod Price guitar riff.

  2. There isn’t a song on Rush’s 1974 debut that sucks, IMHO. Thing is, the late, great Neal Peart wasn’t involved. I think I’ll pour a little more bourbon.

  4. My late older brother, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2022, was THE ultimate Who fan; saw them at least five times including the final tour with Keith Moon. He would crank the living FUCK outta this one, prompting my dad to yell upstairs “TURN THAT SHIT DOWN!” on more than one occasion. 😁 Now on deck, I’m crankin the FUCK out of it because, well, I fuckin can! Well, that and the bourbon is kinda tasty.

    I thought I had a girl
I know, because I've seen her
    Her hair was golden brown
    Blowin' Free
    Like a cornfield
    She was far away
I found it hard to reach her
She told me "You can try"
But it's impossible to find her

  6. The evening’s “live” selection on deck: somewhere in my stuff is, on VHS, the entire Live Aid performance on both sides of the Atlantic at Wembley Stadium and Philadelphia (along with the Australian broadcast before any of that) and one of the best performances of all of it was the set from David Bowie particularly this rendition of one of my favorites from Bowie.

For “Cover Saturday” it’s the final tune written by Joni Mitchell I played at each of three commercial radio stations I worked at but later I made sure it made the music rotation for the pirate radio station my public affairs unit had in northern Iraq in 2004 blasting out of what had been Saddam Hussein’s palace in Mosul. 😉

  24. A Monday nighty night jam: one of those tunes that caught my ear as a 15 year-old dude about to begin his sophomore year in high school when the band’s first album was released in 1979 and liked enough to still have the album in the collection (along with a shit ton of many others) these 47 years later. Just always liked the opening guitar riff.

  34. One more epic from The Who; my older brother got to see these guys three or four times, the first time when Keith Moon was still around. He’d tell me when they got to the part where Roger Daltrey sings “Rock is dead” the crowd would yell back “NO!” Entwistle’s bass work is soooo good.

  36. Nighty night jam: after the concert by the Wings Over America tribute band I saw Saturday night I talked to a couple members of the band, telling one of the lead singers (and bass player) I was kind of expecting “Big Barn Bed” off of Red Rose Speedway. The other guy who does vocals, rolling up mic cables nearby, heard me say that. “I agree with you,” he told me. I think I just helped add a song to their playlist.

Nighty night jam: Sina kicked ass on this one to the point Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice, part of Deep Purple’s “Mark lll lineup” (with David Coverdale on lead vocal and Glenn Hughes on bass) and the drummer on 1974’s “Stormbringer” album, was blown away with this one when he saw this video. I just get a kick outta her clobbering that drum kit. And the guitar riff Ritchie Blackmore came up with.
