The view down my town road late this morning; it’s been nearly 2 1/2 years since Jagger and I would go for walks on this road and autumn tends to hit a little harder as his gold coat would tend to blend in with the changing fall color. He is so missed around here.

I don’t know how many folks have ever followed the adventures of Tucker Budzyn on social media but this is sad news. Tucker always reminded me of Jagger. Having lost one of my kids, I won’t say losing a beloved pet is the same. But I WILL tell you it’s damn close. Rest easy, Tucker. Maybe you and Jagger can link up somewhere across that “Rainbow bridge.”

At one point in 2019, Jagger had outpatient surgery done to have a non-cancerous lump on his back removed and a couple weeks later around this time, he got the sutures removed. He was a happy camper.

I still miss how excited Jagger would get to go for the morning walk, all up in my face, tail waggin’ and barking as I’d be getting my shoes on and telling him to cool his jets.

From 2023 and about a year before I lost Jagger to cancer; these days, Nubs and Gizmo will take up positions at the sliding door looking outside. Before that, though, it was Jagger and little sweetheart Allie (I came home from work one day in January of 2025 and found her dead behind the couch).

Two years on, there’s my coming up the stairs from the basement but no longer seeing Jagger there. Or not tripping over him in the hallway. Or seeing his leash he’d be so excited to see me hold up he’d jump up as if to say “OH BOY! OH BOY! WE’RE GONNA GO FOR A WALK DOWN THE ROAD! LET’S GO!” that now hangs unused along with his collar. In the fall, it’s leaf piles he’d play in and in the winter … the snow. How Jagger did love the snow.

About this time in 2016, I was watching "1776" on Turner Classic Movies with Jagger laying on the floor next to me. Suddenly there’s this ... smell wafting through the air and right about then Jagger, seeming to know I definitely noticed the aroma, rises to his feet, looks at me almost smiling, and walks away to go lay on the kitchen floor, leaving me with his stinky fart.

There were a couple of Golden Retrievers that somehow got separated from their owner - the local humane society had posted about the situation and then did an update, reporting owner and Retrievers have been reunited. Both are beautiful dogs (of course, I’m a little partial to Retrievers) but how could a person NOT love the facial expression on the Retriever on the right? ❤️

2. Let me outside even though I just came in - there's an area I forgot to sniff!
3. You must feed me every goodie you eat.
4. Don't "SHHHHH!" me while you're on the phone - I heard the wind blowing the leaves.
5. If it lands on the floor, it's mine! -

Gizmo isn’t the only pet who follows me into the kitchen, looking for a treat; about this time 11 years ago, it was time for me to go to bed. I took a mug I had some hot tea in to the kitchen and Jagger stood in the entry to the kitchen and looks up at me. "Good night, Jagger bagger," I’d tell him as I would lean over to kiss him on the top of his head. Such a good boy.

One of the funniest things about Jagger around this time of year as the snow was melting off was the way he would desperately hold on to his beloved snow: about this time six years ago he desperately clung to the last remnant on deck. He coulda laid down and relaxed anywhere else on deck that day but he evidently felt the need to hug that snow.
