There is a problem with the "But not us, we're the *good* USAnians" [1] that #Canadians have been hearing frequently since Trump assumed his would-be throne for his second administration.

From the day he took power, he has been #threatening, #insulting, #bullying, and denigrating Canada, in addition to threatening #NATO, cozying up to Putin, starting wars, murdering fishermen, trying to destroy the International Criminal Court, making brown people illegal, suppressing women and Democrats, and a thousand other things.
The "We didn't #vote for him" people, for the most part, aren't doing anything about any of that. The truly good #USAnians are in the streets fighting ICE, suing the administration over his #trade wars, protesting *all the time*. Waiting until November to cast a #ballot is insufficient.
To be "good", you need to be stopping him, or at least attempting to do so. When there are a million people #protesting in the streets around the White House and the Capitol *every day until the midterms*, those people will be the "good USAnians".

"I'm going to unilaterally punish you for breaking rules that do not and have never existed and you better not retaliate or there will be big trouble" is, technically speaking, some form of international relations.
It is the stupidest, most counter-productive, hypocritical, internally inconsistent, and laughable form, but still. We don't expect much different from the #stupidest political regime in the history of North America.

I have a relative who lives in South Carolina (we're both Canadian), which is deep GOP / MAGA country. I recently saw them when they came up for a visit and we talked about Mango Mussolini (as you do).
Worse than the first term, no adults in the room, worst people elevated to positions of power, all the nonsense...
But they agreed that despite his rabid base still ~~burning crosses~~ cheering him on, his popularity is on the decline. I asked "Compared to his first term, do you see fewer people proudly wearing MAGA hats out on the street?"
Their response was surprising: "I don't even remember the last time I saw one." They used to be *everywhere*.
Things can change. USAnians, keep working at it. You might still have a country in 100 days. And then you can start working on restoring democracy.

The flabbergastingly-incompetent "We're voluntarily dismissing our appeal of this dog of a case." / "No we're not" duelling motions from the US DoJ kindergarten theatre of yesterday and today just *screams* of the following sequence of events:
1. Senior DoJ attorneys trying to formulate the appeal of the loss in the original case (which, as you'll recall, is about Trump illegally and arbitrarily punishing law firms he doesn't like) know they have an impossible task - there's nothing they can say that will justify the appeal in a legal sense.
2. They write it up as "We should drop the case" and send it up the chain.
3. A manager/supervisor/<title>-in-charge approves it.
4. It slides by Bondi's desk without notice. She's busy screaming about the Dow-Jones anyways.
5. They file the motion.
6. It gets coverage on TV news, including Fox.
7. Trump sees this, picks up the phone and screams at Bondi demanding the punishment continue.

Why are the US #Democrats so absolutely #useless?
"Oh, we might skip the State of the Union address to show our displeasure with the administration."
Are you #morons? That would be a gift to Dear Leader and his #lickspittle #Congress. The #SOTU would be Mango Mussolini speaking to a friendly crowd, all happy, applauding, not a contrary expression to be seen. He'll be happy, smiling, at his most congenial as he basks in the warm glow. You do not do this.
What you do is attend. Every #Democratic #house member and #senator. Every staffer and guest that they're entitled to bring. Everyone. You put them all in their assigned places.
And then, when Trump gets up to speak, every single one of them simply turns away from the dictator. Turn their back to him, and *stay* that way for the whole speech. The #optics are great; the cameras show half the crowd with their backs to him, in obvious #protest. The #tyrant has to look at it all through his speech. He's angry. He's spiteful. He puts on a display for the ages, goes off-script, airing every #grievance his Swiss-cheese mind can dredge up. His body language is hostile. #Media coverage shows the event for what it actually is: a #vengeful, #lawless #authoritarian trying to verbally browbeat the legislative branch into submission.

So the #USAnians sent a "special envoy" to Greenland.
This is a #diplomatic faux pas to start with - #Greenland is an autonomous division of the #Danish kingdom, and so all diplomatic actions should (at least to start) be done by approaching Denmark, through the USA ambassador to Denmark. Bypassing that is Not Done. Extremely rude. Like, "drop your trousers and shit on the floor in front of the queen" #rude.
So that's bad enough.
But the *reason* for the envoy is to try to convince Greenland to #separate from #Denmark, and join the #USA. i.e. it's just another extension of the "We'll take Greenland" #bullshit the #insane #orange mental-defect-in-diapers was pushing a while back. This is, from a diplomatic standpoint, unspeakably rude. Unimaginably so. Simply unfathomable, except for the fact that the USA *elected* that #fascist #asshole to behave this way.
So the normal diplomatic response would be for the Danish PM to summon the USA #ambassador, and ask him for an explanation, and the ambassador would be expected to provide an #apology to some degree.
But given Trump's penchant for appointing his kind of c*cksuckers as ambassadors, and zero respect for any kind of #behavioural standards, the appropriate response here would be for the Danish PM to summon the USA ambassador, and then #stab him in the #face.

The USA had absolutely #zilch to do with the Suez canal. Which is probably for the best, because the USA was kind busy fighting its own civil war and then the #reconstruction that followed it - the canal was built from 1859 to 1869.
So, Mr. Trump: pull your head out of your ass, admit your ignorance, apologize to Egypt, France, and the rest, and slink off to your history-free corner of D.C. with your tail between your legs.

Canadians aren't "putting up" with this Trump bullshit. If you're USAnian, your news basically isn't covering our reaction. In summary: we are PISSED.
Canada and Canadians have had enormous good will for the USA and Americans for hundreds of years. In his first month in office, Mango Mussolini has managed to burn it to the ground. We no longer see the USA as a reliable partner, much less a friend.
If an American showed up in Canada today in a MAGA hat and made a "51st state" joke, it's possible their body would never be found. And if the Crown managed to gather sufficient evidence to charge someone with murder, it might be difficult to find a jury that would convict them.
Frankly, if I was a USAnian planning on visiting Canada in the next, oh, thirty or forty years, I would make damn sure I had enough "Fuck Trump" shirts to be wearing one Every. Single. Day. Otherwise you're in for a chilly reception.

The rest of the world probably knows this, but for our #USAnian friends, the single most offensive thing about President Felon's actions in violating our trade agreements with the USA -- trade agreements which *he* signed -- is this little addition:

Individual Americans can be, and frequently are, lovely people. But something happens in the aggregate that makes you absolutely insufferable at times. This is one of those times.

I think perhaps you misunderstood me.
I'm aware the #USA has the largest #military #budget in the world, by far. They might even arguably be the best-equipped 😃 . If they did choose to conquer #Canada by force, they could squash us like a bug.
I didn't dispute any of that. I doubt many would.
I dispute that the USA would do so, even with a #nutjob at the helm. There are still various checks and balances in the US system of government, even with Mango Mussolini chomping at the bit. There are many, many decent, principled, honourable people making up much of the leadership of their military forces. He's not going to issue that order, because calmer heads will prevail, and if he did, it wouldn't be followed.
"Militarily conquer a partner in your decades-old, well-respected shared-defence pact on a whim" isn't going to pass the sniff test anywhere in #NATO, not even in the USA.
It's been a few years since I was on a CF base. But I still talk to people on both sides of the border.
