So there I was at the end of my sophomore year in high school (1980) cruising in a beat up 1968 Opel Kadett hatchback with a guy who had been the leader of a high school rock band I’d done some roadie work for and he pops in a cassette of Van Halen’s new release and asks “Jopek, have ya heard this yet?” I hadn’t but I liked it. A lot. I’m sure the neighbors will now. 😉

One of my “Minneapolis tunes” I’d hear on what was, in 1983, Rock 101FM/KDWB and liked enough I picked up the album (still in the collection with about 600 others!) and it is, as far as I’m concerned, the best tune on the album. The guitar solo work kicks. You guessed it - it was played on my album rock airshift at the first radio gig out west.

Around the time I started at my first radio gig in 1984, an album from some of the guys who had been in The Yardbirds during the 60s showed up. It was kinda fun playing this and other cuts off this album and maybe a Yardbirds tune to go with it. Actually getting a little cooler out here. Might have to make some hot tea.
