My oldest grandson Ryan’s intent to learn how to play electric bass has intrigued me and today I sent his dad a link to a song that has a simple bass line an 11 1/2 year-old should be able to pick up relatively easily especially for a kid as bright as he is. I told his dad from the time I first heard it when I was younger than my grandson Ryan (I was eight) I always liked the way the bass kicks in.

So, music was played this morning for the first hour in the editorial section of the newspaper office and at one point, I told the young lad “spinning the tunes” he may as well go ahead and play “Get Down Tonight” by K.C. And The Sunshine Band. The kid, at 29 or 30 (our other staffers are 23 and 30), had never heard the song. To say I aged myself is a distinct understatement. Even so, the tuneage was played.

I have this very Apple Records 45 rpm vinyl single; the Easter Bunny left it in my Easter basket next to a big honkin chunk of milk chocolate on Easter Sunday, 1975. Of course, I went right to my RCA record player and jammed like only a 10 year-old could with one of those. 😉 Paul’s bass work is outstanding and Jimmy McCullough kicks ass with the guitar solo.
