  1. I must admit that I’ve spent much of this season thinking Dundee United simply weren’t good enough to witn the Championship. What a relief to be proved wrong, although they made heavy weather of it again yesterday. It’s not technically won, but even I can’t see us losing a 36 goal dvantage over 2 matches, so we’ll be back in the top league next season. Mind you, without some good recruitment, we’ll be straight back down again. A lot of the squad aren’t good enough for the Premiership.

  3. The latest Historical Blindness Podcast on the #BermudaTriangle was fascinating. It asserts that many of the details often quoted about the disappearance of #Flight19 come from a fictionalised account of the event. Apparently, the official investigation reports none of the famously cited comments from the patrol leader who, incidentally, had twice before become lost & ditched his aircraft in the sea. The mysterious disappearance stories were apparently debunked decades ago, but the explanations aren’t as exciting as the thought of something otherworldly going on, so have received very little attention. As so often, rational, unexciting explanations don’t sell books or gain advertising interest for TV shows, so the more exciting, but probably incorrect, stories hold sway.
I must admit this is the first time I’d heard the alternative explanations.

  5. I must say my first impressions of iOS 26 are not very good. I waited until 26.1 to update because of the known Voiceover bug. But the results are still disappointing. Voiceover sounds more robotic and& abrupt, there’s a definite lag when swiping through elements on the screen. Perhaps it’s just as well I’ve decided to upgrade my phone soon because this iPhone 13 is struggling to cope.

  7. @BlindGordon @mastodonmigration yes and please use #AccessibleHashtags (capitalize the first letter of every word in a multi-word hashtag) which are better for people who use screen readers, and easier to read for everyone else as well. #MastodonMigration #NewHere

  8. For those who still hanker for a fully accessible 3rd Party app to useTwitter, the Spring app’s latest update has somehow managed to gain access to the bird site again. I don’t know how the developer does it, but it is working, and it is so nice to be able to navigate Twitter easily. I don’t spend a lot of time there, but a lot of posts about my football team still appear there, so I rely on it to keep up to date with team & fan news. #DUFC #Twitter #SpringApp

  10. @BlindGordon I think we should ignore a lot of that media hype. Yes, AI will have a place in our society. Yes, it will replace some jobs, obsolete others. But AI needs humans humans don't always need AI! :) But you know, media needs clicks, sensations and fear, hence the vibe! :) just #snore

  14. I’m still raging after yet another VAR decision goes against Dundee United. If the pitch-side monitor wasn’t working, VAR need to be very sure of their decision, but nobody else seems to be able to see a clear handball to disallow our goal. And it took them over 4 minutes to make the decision.
This wasn’t the only bad decision in the match. I said before kick off that we’d probably lose as we never get anything from that particular referee. Coincidence? Maybe, but I’m not the only one who thinks so.

  16. It’s been a hectic festive period for Dundee United #DUFC. 7 games in 21 days, 2 of them against Celtic, & 4 of them away from home. To come out of that lot with 4 wins and a draw is a superb achievement. And I haven’t been able to get to any of the games. Maybe I should stay away if we’re going to get results like that.

  17. The Dundee derby wasn’t a classic, and there wasn’t much silky soccer, but it was an exciting enough game and, once again, United ground out a win. Credit to the Manager for changing things at half time.

  18. Well, that’s some way to round off the footballing year. A winning goal in 90 plus 4. This Dundee United team may not play pretty football, but they certainly know how to dig out a win.
Let’s hope they can keep it going in 2025.

  19. Is anyone else having problems with Dolphin EasyReader? When I try to connect to RNIB Reading Services, I get an error message saying it has used an incorrect username or password, with no option other than OK. According to RNIB, there was a problem but it has been fixed, and all I should do is log out, log in, restart phone, reinstall EasyReader and possibly turn in circles while waving one hand in the air. Over the past 24 hours, I’ve reinstalled the app 3 times and it still won’t connect. It’s getting beyond frustrating now.

  21. I thought I’d use the RNIB online shop to get some new liquid level indicators. Everything went fine until I reached the payment section. They’ve obviously outsourced this, and the page killed both JAWS & Narrator. I could not complete the info because neither screen reader would give any feedback at all. I had to get AIRA to help. It worked, but it’s a poor show that a leading sight loss charity has a website which is not fully accessible.

  25. Blindness from some inherited eye diseases may be caused by gut bacteria – study independent.co.uk/news/science interesting discovery, although the problem does seem to relate a rather small number of specific eye conditions. Still, the more science discovers, the sooner we may see sight loss prevented for some people. #Science is amazing.
