#HowToTrainYourDragon #LiveAction is an example in how to do a live action adaptation right.

They kept it nearly identical, tweaking things just the right amount to make it feel just a bit more "real" (which is exactly what is needed with live action). They took an incredibly soft approach with amazing balance to the changes for the different medium.

I'm sure it was helped by the fact that the movie is grounded in believability with minimal fantasy compared to something like Battle Angel Alita

They did drop a couple of lines that I think should have been kept (especially Stoic's "what have I done"). Maybe they got cut in editing because they didn't have good delivery? Who knows.

But IMO this is now the gold standard for "how to adapt an animated film to live action".

Current strategy for learning #Italian. Watch the Italian dub of #HowtoTrainYourDragon over and over again until I can understand all the dialogue. I already know most of the English version by heart.

(Obviously I'm using other learning methods but so far this movie has actually been quite helpful)

I just finished reading How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. It was a fun read!

I had watched most of the 2025 How to Train Your Dragon movie on a flight a couple months ago. That was also good but surprisingly different. I'm used to movie adaptations being different, but this adaptation changed key elements of the story.

It's interesting movies of books are creative re-tellings of the story. It reminds me of fan-fiction.

How To Train Your Dragon (2025) - который игровая экранизация - норм.

Ну, то есть это всё ещё игровой фильм по мультфильму, что очевидным образом влияет на ухудшение погружения из-за того, что то, что позволено мультфильму на камеру выглядит местами странно.

Ну, скажем, оригиналу можно простить жирных драконов с маленькими крыльями, которые каким-то чудом летают. Игровому фильму - сложнее.
Или прочие физические взаимодействия персонажей вроде падений и ударов на живых актёрах вызывают желание вызвать реанимацию.
Ну или какой-то визуальный юмор оригинала по ощущениям был сокращён, но это скорее даже правильное решение, т.к. не всё можно покадрово переделать чтобы оно продолжило нормально выглядеть.

Но если постараться закрыть на это глаза, то можно сказать, что в остальном ничего специально не портили.

Анимации дракона - тоже сделали хорошо. Но опять же, вроде как, порезали крутые моменты из оригинала, которые обыгрывают повадки драконов отсылающие то к птицам, то к кошкам, то ещё к кому.

Где-то здесь можно задаться вопросом: "а нам это вообще было нужно?".
И вот на это у меня ответа нет. Мне кажется, что и мультфильм со своей задачей отлично справлялся. Да и представить людей, которые не будут воспринимать сказку в виде мульта, а игровое кино им понравится - тоже сложно.

То есть, это чисто коммерческий продукт. Не тот, правда, с душком, что мы привыкли видеть в последнее время, а попавший в нормальные руки. И эти руки постарались передать все элементы оригинала в другом формате. У них скорее получилось, чем нет.

Смотреть вполне можно, но и пропустив радикально ничего не потеряете если смотрели оригинал.

The live action movie "How to Train Your Dragon" was absolutely fantastic. I completely reject any criticisms of this picture: DAMMIT, IT WAS PERFECT... including the cast - particularly Mason & Nico - & now I'm dying to visit #Berk at #EpicUniverse.
