"Why was Israel spared scrutiny for the 1967 USS Liberty attack?
US Representative Thomas Massie set to honour the crew of the vessel on the House floor, bringing attention to the 1967 attack.
On June 8, 1967, at least 34 US sailors were killed and 171 others were wounded in an Israeli attack on the USS Liberty, a United States Navy technical research ship stationed in the Mediterranean Sea off Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.
Israel claimed it was a case of mistaken identity, saying its naval forces thought the vessel was Egyptian. But some of the survivors and researchers have disputed the Israeli version of the incident. They lament that successive governments did little to bring out the truth behind one of the deadliest attacks on the US Navy by its closest ally, Israel.
This year, the attack has come under renewed attention after US Representative Thomas Massie announced he would deliver a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives to honour and memorialise the crew of the USS Liberty.
So what do we know about one of the most controversial chapters of the US Navy?
(. . .)
Nearly 60 years on, records related to the attack remain classified, survivors and advocates say.
Richard Brooks, chief engineer on the vessel, told Al Jazeera in a 2015 interview that 'it wasn’t a tragic accident'. It was a deliberate attack. They knew who we were. They tried to sink us. They wanted us out to either bring the Americans into the war by blaming the Arabs or we picked up some information about their war plans.'
A naval board of inquiry was hastily convened while the severely damaged ship was dry-docked in Malta, but the proceedings concluded swiftly.
Ernie Gallo, president of the USS Liberty Survivors Group, dismissed Israel’s 'mistaken identity' excuse as a lie and accused the US government of complicity for accepting the false narrative. He continues to demand a full official inquiry."

"Palestinian baby shot dead by Israeli troops in occupied West Bank
The seven-month-old, Sam Fahd Abu Haikal, was in his mother’s arms when soldiers fired on family in Hebron
Israeli troops killed a seven-month-old Palestinian baby in the occupied West Bank and injured one of the child’s parents after opening fire on the family’s car, despite it having complied with an order to stop.
Soldiers opened fire on Friday on a car carrying the infant and his parents in the Tel Rumeida area of Hebron. The seven-month-old, Sam Fahd Abu Haikal, was critically injured, evacuated in critical condition to a hospital, where he later died. His parents were also injured.
The Israeli military said troops had fired at a vehicle they believed was moving towards them, but an initial inquiry found those injured were uninvolved civilians.
In an interview with Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the father, Fahd Abu Haikal, a lecturer at Bethlehem University, said that 'a bullet passed through his hand and struck his son, Sam, who was being held by his mother in the back seat'. Abu Haikal said the family, which also included the couple’s 11-year-old son and Abu Haikal’s mother, had been driving through Hebron on Friday evening when soldiers signalled for the vehicle to stop, he said.
He said it was still daylight and that the soldier who opened fire could clearly see the occupants were a family. 'The soldier signalled me to stop. I brought the car to a complete halt and raised my hands on the steering wheel. Immediately afterwards, they opened fire on the vehicle,' he told Haaretz."

"Poland blasts ‘stupidity’ of Israeli football fans displaying ‘murderers since 1939’ banner at match
(. . .)
'The scandalous banner displayed by Maccabi Haifa fans insults the memory of Polish citizens – victims of World War II, including 3 million Jews. Stupidity that no words can justify,' Karol Nawrocki said on US social media company X early Friday.
At a Thursday Europa Conference League match in Debrecen, Hungary versus Polish club Rakow Czestochowa, Israeli football fans held up a banner saying 'murderers since 1939,' in a muddled historical reference. On Sept. 1, 1939, Nazi Germany invaded Poland, a date many historians mark as the start of World War II in Europe.
Nawrocki lambasted the banner, saying it showed 'stupidity that no words can justify.'"

"Polish football club rejects Israeli transfer offer, compares business ties with Tel Aviv to Nazi Germany
The owner of Polish football club Pogon Szczecin has rejected transfer offers from Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv, comparing business dealings with the club to doing business with Nazi Germany, Anadolu Agency reports.
Club owner Alex Haditaghi said on US social media company X that he had informed Maccabi Tel Aviv of his decision not to pursue negotiations over the transfers of defenders Dimitris Keramitsis and Leo Borges.
In a letter addressed to the Israeli club’s president and published on his social media account, Haditaghi said football should symbolize 'hope, respect, unity and humanity' and be 'more important than politics, borders or divisions.'However, he said the ongoing suffering of civilians in Gaza, Lebanon, Iran and elsewhere in the region made it inappropriate for his club to conduct business with an Israeli club.
'Considering the ongoing suffering of innocent civilians in Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, and across the region, and considering the violent, genocidal and inhuman actions of the Israeli state, I do not believe it would be morally right for our club to proceed with any business transaction with a club representing Israel at this time,' he wrote.
(. . .)
'There are moments when ethics must be stronger than profit and money,' he added."

"Pentagon raised threat of Israeli spying on U.S. to highest level, sources say
The counterintelligence threat level was raised by the Defense Intelligence Agency in recent weeks after growing concerns that Israeli espionage had become more aggressive than usual, sources say.
(. . .)
The Pentagon is increasingly concerned about Israel ramping up its spying on the U.S., recently raising the counterintelligence threat level from America’s top ally in the Middle East to the highest level, according to two U.S. officials and one former U.S. official.
The Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency in recent weeks issued the new counterintelligence threat assessment amid rising tensions between Israel and the U.S. over the way forward in the war with Iran, the officials said. They said the DIA posted an internal message, viewed by one of the current officials, that raised the level for Israel to 'critical.'
The designation stems from concerns within the Pentagon that Israel is making a particular effort to surveil top U.S. officials to get information on the Trump administration’s internal deliberations and decision-making on the conflicts in the Middle East, the officials said.
The DIA assessment includes a seven-page document and features a chart, according to one of the current U.S. officials. The document says the assessment of Israel is that its ability to conduct human espionage and technical collection is at a 'critical level,' according to the official.
It also identifies a series of specific incidents that heightened U.S. concerns, the official said.
A spokesperson for the Israeli embassy in Washington, D.C., said in a statement that it is 'completely false' that Israel spies on the U.S. 'Israel does not gather intelligence on American entities, let alone US government officials,' the spokesperson said. 'Israel intelligence collection efforts are aimed at its enemies, not its allies. Any claims to the contrary are either misinformed or politically motivated.'
The Pentagon declined to comment.
A White House official said in a statement, 'This entire story is false and sourced to someone who doesn’t have any knowledge of what’s going on.'"

"Congress quietly moves to integrate US and Israeli militaries
In the first step towards shifting aid further into the shadows, the House's 2027 NDAA would all but fuse the two countries' armed forces together
At a time when the American public is expressing unprecedented levels of distrust in the Israeli government, Congress just proposed tying the U.S. to the Israeli military more than ever before.
Buried in the House's version of the 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) released on Tuesday, is section 224, entitled 'United States-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative.' The provision would arguably do more to intertwine the U.S. military with the Israeli military than the more than $200 billion (inflation adjusted) in military assistance Israel has received from the U.S. since its founding in 1948.
Section 224 lays the groundwork for bilateral research and development, co-production of weapons, joint ventures, licensing agreements, and seemingly every manner of U.S.-Israeli military-industrial complex cooperation. The U.S. and Israel already work together heavily on missile defense, but this provision would greatly expand coordination to seemingly every area of defense tech, including AI, quantum, autonomous systems, directed energy, cyber, biotech, and many more. It also proposes 'network integration' and 'data fusion.' In other words, the U.S. military’s data could soon be the Israeli military’s data.
If fully enacted, this proposal would provide a higher level of military-industrial integration than the U.S. has with any other country in the world. To be sure, the U.S. has worked closely with its NATO partners on co-production and shared supply chains, most notably via the Defence Production Action Plan. And, as the number one arms dealer in the world, the U.S. provides weapons to militaries across the globe. But that is mostly a one-way street, with the U.S. providing weapons to foreign buyers who only occasionally make parts for those weapons themselves, as in the case of the F-35’s global supply chain."

"Israel Kills 8 in Lebanon After Trump Says He Told Netanyahu to Call Off Beirut Attack
Israel’s military continued its attacks on Lebanon overnight, killing at least eight people, even after President Trump said both sides had 'agreed that all shooting will stop.'
(. . .)
Axios is reporting that during an expletive-laden call, Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, 'You’re f’ing crazy. You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving your ass. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this.' After the call, President Trump said in a social media post that he’d had a 'productive' phone call with Netanyahu and that 'there will be no Troops going to Beirut.' Trump’s comment came after Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said they had ordered massive airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs."

"Israeli troops seize strategic castle in Lebanon during deepest incursion in decades
The taking of Beaufort castle, near the city of Nabatiyeh, followed days of airstrikes and intense fighting in nearby villages between Israeli troops and Hezbollah militants.
The capture marked a major Israeli advance in the latest Israel-Hezbollah war, which began on March 2, when Hezbollah fired rockets into northern Israel two days after the U.S. and Israel attacked its main backer, Iran.Hezbollah has launched thousands of missiles and drones at Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon and northern Israel.
The Israeli push came despite a nominal ceasefire that has been in place since April 17 and just days before Lebanon and Israeli hold their next round of direct talks in Washington starting Tuesday." -

I'd take Susan Abduhawa *one trillion percent* over mother fucking Mamdani, and his wife...
Are you mother fucking kidding me?
Susan was able to go into Gaza, in 2024, ***when there was no ceasefire***, during a fucking famine, and risked her life to smuggle supplies for humans, **and animals**, in her own luggage.
Distance myself from her? From a human being with diamond-strong courage?
Fuck outta here. Forever.
