Still moving! #homelab! Got all of my media stuff over! It's been surprisingly very uneventful to get my lxc/lxd stuff over to lxc/incus. Also consolidating onto my #NetBird / #WireGaurd networking thing has been a breeze! I don't gotta touch any networking. It just moves to the new place and keeps it ten toes down! It has it's own dns that i'm referencing everywhere! If you aint on the "overlay" network, you aint getting on shit! Stay not trusting no one not even these #kids 🤣

I'm actually pretty surprised thise #NetBird #WireGaurd network overlay thing I got going is working so well. The only annoyance is when i'm on my phone, I need to hit the app to log on to the network then I'm able to get to where I want in the #homelab. It's just one more step that otherwise wasn't there before.

I struggled to pick #terraform to create the new networks. Not because of the bullshit they be pushing but, I needed to create a 3 new #lxd #networks and this would be the only time.. I hope I'll be doing this . I coded!

In good news because I spent so much time on the #wiregaurd #overlay #network. Moving my instances from one network to another was a breeze! what happen underneath didn't even register!

I think I got the #dns part of switching to this #NetBird #WireGaurd implementation thing down in the #homelab . I do feel like it takes up a bit of headspace as this is not a very traditional way of doing #networking . I'm sure it will click at some point but right now it's still a bit magical!

I still need to move #LXD networks as it would seem that the gateway value only takes when you create a network using the #OVN integrations . I changed gateways, so yea thats a thing!

Ehh this new #NetBird #networking is sort of working out. The idea is no matter where you are in the networking world as long as you are connected to the #WireGaurd network. You get access to #homelab services. If you are not connected to the #netbird network then you are not trusted!

Even if my own #homelab I don't trust me! 😂 Im zero trust every where!

Now that i'm switching up the networking from #virtualized #VyOS to #hardware based #openwrt, I'm starting to rethink this #bgp thing in the #homelab. Should I just use #netbird ( #WireGaurd Overlay )to route between #LXD networks that can't route to each other directly. But then.. is that my new #BGP.. Everything is just another shade of greay aint it. Shiiiet!

So #ESPHome got #WireGaurd support in 2023.09.0. I wonder if/when this we may get #Tailscale support in ESPHome

So now that I have this #wiregaurd made easy thing with #netbird in the #homelab. I wanted to have a split horizon type #dns where the wiregaurd network would go to the wiregaurd interface on my LB and anything on my internal network would go to the internal interface on my LB. I'm using this for my phone.

With 2 DNS servers and a forwarding zone, i'm able to override records and point it to the wiregaurd network on the second dns server.

Going down this network trip with #wiregaurd and all that. I killed like for ever yesterday because I had an instance acting like an on/off ramp to my actual network.. well dummy when I started adding the clients individually to the instances, I gave my self asymmetric routing and shit started falling off the network. Cleared that instance out and routing started working again.. Spent way too much time with #networking in the #homelab.

I started moving ( or installing) wireguard-made-easy-service called #netbird ( #tailscale like just not as feature rich). I don't know how I got onto this thing but since i'm here, i'm thinking I should try the idea out. #wiregaurd overlay here I come. This has the potential to flatten my #ovn #sdn network as well. No need to BGP my stuff, just hop on the #network at least I think.

Anyone using these, "Wiregaurd made easy by some service" like #tailscale or #netbird as an overlay network? I have this #SDN network in place with #OVN and it's just one more thing I have to install on my #lxd nodes. I was wondering if I could just enable these containers with a #wiregaurd thingy and then they can just communicate with each other and I guess I can manage them through some hosted system they or 3rd party provide or is that any better than just cli'ing it

Got my one band man instance being front ended by my vps for external use and tunneling it back with #wiregaurd.. I'm also got ipv6 configured out there... ipv6 wild tho.. shit makes no sense until it does and I get why we holding on to ipv4..

I love the concept of overlay networks! They are dope... until they don't work. #OVN has been solid until i run into something crazy and troubleshooting it so so hard. I rebooted a node and now the networks won't come back up.

I'm thinking now of possibly moving my #homelab to a flat #WireGaurd solution like #NetBird or similar. Anyone running their whole lab on #WireGaurd / Overlay #network / #networks ?

Doing some lite holiday reading tonight on Stormblest's #Mistborn (the software setup not the books). Seems like a real nice decently tested all in one solution for building out a home network based on #WireGaurd. Has anyone else tried this before and can offer any thoughts?
