  3. Such a great story of living your passion.

Ian Jones has spent 11 years turning his his backyard into a miniature railway, complete with tunnels, bridges and over 300 metres of track.
It's up for sale including a house bus.

    Whanganui calling.

  4. Water has powered industry for centuries. This undershot waterwheel powered a flour mill. One of a number on The Whanganui river, but the only one restored.
Something about waterwheels, belts and flywheels is so simple yet so productive in producing power.
And it is a constant source in a river.
Just like generating electricity, but with no middle man.
    Hmm.

  5. After a local backlash, Whanganui mayor Andrew Tripe now professes regret for giving the eulogy during a candlelit vigil for US neo-Nazi Charlie Kirk.

Tripe claims to have known “very little” about Kirk, but his own words let him down.

“Charlie Kirk shed his blood for us”.

“It is our call to act on what Charlie Kirk was doing, boldly.”

With that last line, is the mayor referring to Kirk's misogyny, his hatred of LGBQT people or just his white nationalism?

  8. CW: Photo GeoLocation Project

This is my personal project to provide some sort of geographic pin for each of my photos.

Have now geolocated all photos up to to early 2003 and the project is 28.38% complete (22,269 of 78,476 photos pinned). Some pins are accurate to within a metre or two; quite a few are, well, less precise. Let's not even talk about countries where locations are deliberately obfuscated or inaccurate.

Here are some of those 2003 pics I'm working on right now.

  9. #Taranaki becomes the third #naturalfeature in #Aotearoa aka New Zealand to be granted legal #personhood following #TeUrewera in 2014 and the #Whanganui River in 2017. That designation means the geographic features gain the legal status of a person, ensuring they are treated with respect and protection.

“When we think about the concept of personhood, what we are doing is putting in place a very #Māori! #Indigenous concept into western law,” Jamie Tuuta

  10. Seems there's a pattern emerging here. Less than 24 hours after being installed, signs reflecting a return to a traditional name in the Whanganui area were knocked down:
