  1. In general, the local dimension of our national graphic design history remains largely unknown. In this article (in Turkish), I documented the master-apprentice transmission of commercial artists in Adapazarı, beginning with horsecart painter Numan Balıca in 1940s. I explored how this informal education system evolved from traditional carriage painting to contemporary outdoor advertising, fundamentally shaping the region's visual memory.

  2. Although sign painters have shaped our everyday visual culture, their professional lives often remain undocumented and anonymous. This lack of documentation creates a gap in the local dimension of national graphic design history. In this article (in Turkish), I document the life and work of Abdullah Cankurtaran, a French teacher who practised sign painting in Lüleburgaz, Bursa, and Fethiye. Known for his meticulous craftsmanship and passion for language, his story reveals a unique cross-section of our typographic heritage.

  9. I occasionally share my published articles here.

Vernacular is often seen merely as a repository of styles or a source of inspiration. Yet within design practice, it gradually evolves into a mode of thinking and even an ethical stance. In this review article (in Turkish), I discuss this transformation of the vernacular in visual communication design and its position within the discipline.

  15. #vernacularTypography it has a viewpoint; it comes from a particular, individual understanding of type. i always find this fascinating because even an experienced typographer can only be subjective.
