God's favorite animal strikes back!
"A new genomic analysis of the mosquito, called Anopheles stephensi, using specimens collected from 10 countries, showed that those found in Africa had genetic resistance to all of the chemicals currently used in spraying campaigns and other mosquito-control efforts, meaning those insecticides will not kill it."

Climate change explains much of this year’s jump in dengue cases and the long-term increase in the disease over the past two decades. There are ever fewer places where temperatures drop below 15°C in winter, the level at which mosquitoes tend to die out, so there are more virus-carrying insects in circulation, ready to surge, once temperatures rise in the spring.

The Chinese team launched a search for microbes that, like Wolbachia, might help control the disease from within the mosquito. They focused on Yunnan province, parts of which are infested with Asian tiger mosquitoes (Aedes albopictus), a species that can transmit dengue and Zika viruses.

"The wildfires in Canada, the orange Blade Runner skies on the East Coast, the hot ocean, the rapidly melting glaciers in Greenland and Antarctica and the Himalayas, the high price of food, the spread of vector-borne diseases in unexpected places — it is all connected, and it is all driven by rising heat." #ClimateCrisis #climatechange #collapse #ecology #environmentalism #vectorbiology #mortality #morbidity 2/2
