It was good, last year, when we booed the heck out of the US National Anthem. I think everyone understood what exactly people were booing. It wasn't the citizens or our many friends and family in the USA, it was the person driving us apart.
So this beautiful singing of the Canadian anthem by Buffalo fans this week before a game that didn't even feature a Canadian team is special, because it's Americans saying they still love and respect us, their friends.
The feeling is mutual.

Now #TheAmericanFascist has appointed an 'envoy' to help convince Greenlanders to ditch Denmark and join the USA. Denmark is shocked and angered, as they should be. Greenlanders are wholly opposed.
There is poetic irony of a Louisiana politician being tapped to lead a "Greenland Purchase" by America. I very much doubt the result will be the same. But there are some interesting parallels.
Lousisiana Purchase (1808)
a) Made possible by squabbles and warring in Europe.
b) involved purchase of 2.14 million km2 of North America for $380 Million in 2024 dollars. Greenland is 2.17 million km2.It's difficult to fathom just how undervalued the Louisana Purchase was...nevermind the whole — selling Indigenous Lands without Treaty — issue. But hey... that would be another parallel with today's Inuit and Greenland Peoples.
Back in the modern context, America's Fascists just want to do Fascist things like take over sovereign countries and oppress nations, not unlike Hitler, the Kaiser's Germany, the Napoleans, Imperial Britain, Conquistador-ist Spain, and Tsarist-Stalinist-Putinist Russia.
This all needs to be kept -- forefully if need be -- in the past. We cannot allow these regressive dictators to come back.
He must be stopped.

It is nice to know there are Americans who feel this way and are willing to write about it.
As he says, it's small consolation for the feeling of betrayal Canadians are feeling when it comes to our "best friend", but it's a start.

There are many of us in the uk that have had to come to terms with the fact that our country is not the place we thought it was and it has taken time, energy and effort to rebuild our sense of belonging. If it has happened yet.
I can only imagine how these events are feeling. I can only say, it will get better, but it will take time, much longer than you hope for, i suspect, but it will.

And that's why using hashtags to mark the _themes_ of toots is *so important* in the Fediverse, far more important than in the bird place.
B/C hete, we can use # to filter unwanted stuff, make our feeds safer.
(Unbelievable as it seems, but not everyone wants to see #caturday photos; or #USApoli toots).
Using # is evidence of *care* for others in our Fediverse community. It's a cultural practice that keeps this place a better space for all, internationally.

Today Zelensky talked to USA President Biden, Canada Prime Minister Trudeau, and Poland President Duda. He thanks them in tonight's address where he also mentions the issues in Russia.
