First Planting Day of 2026: How 43 People Planted a Giving Garden in 90 Minutes
43 volunteers kicked off the 2026 growing season at the Eastpointe Community Garden, planting 13 Giving Garden beds in just 90 minutes. New irrigation timers, a trellis install, compost donations, and Ferlito's pizza rounded out one of our biggest garden parties ever. -

Love Life Church, New Volunteers, and the Saturday That Had Everything
32 volunteers showed up to the Eastpointe Community Garden on Saturday, July 12th, creating pure magic! From Love Life Church’s amazing crew tackling major cleanup projects to new volunteers Lindsay and Jody finding their garden family, this was a day that had everything. We harvested 25+ pounds of fresh produce for 17 families, celebrated our first apple on the fruit tree, and proved once again that community gardening is where the best kind of chaos happens. What a Day! Our Garden Party Was Pure Magic
Twenty-five volunteers showed up to tackle projects, harvest fresh produce, and create some serious garden magic together. Our crew worked on improving the water feature while Shay, Kat, and Cola transformed a rental bed into the most breathtaking fairy garden complete with solar mushroom lights. We harvested 40 pounds of fresh produce in one day, bringing us to 156 pounds donated this month alone!

How Six Volunteers and One Very Heavy Sculpture Made The Day
Last weekend was our opening day with over 35 people – then today another 25+ showed up! From moving our 600-pound “Watermelon Man” sculpture with six determined volunteers to celebrating Jeff’s 40th birthday with homemade cake and a custom portrait of his dog, this Saturday had everything. We launched our first produce stand of the season (6+ pounds of radishes!), filled new U-pick beds, and proved once again that when community comes together, amazing things happen. Friends, we’re still buzzing from Monday night’s fundraiser at Villa Italian Restaurant! The place was PACKED to the rafters with Urban Seed supporters! More than 40 tables of wonderful folks came out to enjoy some delicious Italian food while helping our garden grow. We raised a whopping $500 thanks to your incredible support ($400 from the event and an extra $100 that Tony generously threw in)! Mother Nature tried to rain on our parade this weekend, but our dedicated gardeners showed up as soon as the weather broke! While Jeff worked on new garden signs from home and John connected our website to the Fediverse, the onsite team was busy with A-frame construction and the great shed relocation saga. The highlight of the day? Two amazing native tree donations – a pawpaw seedling and an American hazelnut that will make wonderful additions to our growing community space. Join us next Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM to see what we’re up to next!
