Here is something I haven’t seen in a while, a #Turntable. Of course, most #PassengerTrains these days have #locomotives at the front and the back and simply run in both directions and turntables tend to be depots and sidings.

Power stage #amplifier is two powerful triode SE mono blocks based on doubled GU-50 tubes. There is no any snake-oil audiophile stuff, by the way. Too much iron to move with you while changing countries.

*Excited clapping* I've just ordered one of these, an Audio-Technica Sound Burger. I don't have space for a permanent deck setup in the new flat, but I've wanted something for vinyl for a while, and this should suit my needs perfectly. I spotted it entirely by accident when I was shopping for some BT Headphones for tutherarf.

This one is probably my favourite, and I'm surprised it hasn't got more traction. Three separate sequences on geared platters driven by the main turntable. Drums, chords, bassline. Ratios 1:2 and 3:4
The chord sequence changes slightly by the end of the video as one of the plastic arc segments slips out of position a bit. -
Waited weeks to get the subplatter I ordered for my Pro-Ject #turntable, and this is what I got: no spindle (not even drilled out in the center), and not machined properly (no ridge for the platter to sit on, surface is anything but smooth). "Diamond-cut aluminum", my ass! There is no excuse for this. Purchased on Amazon from Audio Advisor, Inc.

I can't believe I'm seeing an imminent delivery date from Amazon on the "diamond-cut aluminum" subplatter upgrade for my Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo #turntable. They're practically unobtainium!

Stylus upgrade from Carbon MM to Carbon Pro MM on the Rega P2. This was quick and easy to do, no tools, no wiring, no alignment change and no tracking weight change. Immediate improvement in the sound for very little cost so happy with this.

Wer in letzter Zeit meine Posts gelesen hat, wird über die 16 Vinyls gestolpert sein, die ich bei einer Haushaltsauflösung vor der Vernichtung gerettet habe.
Eines der Alben, die ich ergattern konnte, liegt heute auf dem Plattenteller und erinnert mich an längst vergangene Zeiten, als der Ernst des Lebens gerade erst so richtig begann.
In meiner Jugend hatte ich immer gern Rock gehört, und auch gerne mal Deutsch-Rock. Immer wieder hängengeblieben bin ich bei Wolfgang Niedecken, dem Major und Schmal Boecker – BAP eben. Ich habe die Gitarre von Major geliebt, die rauhe Stimme von Wolfgang und natürlich die Texte, die zum Glück immer auf dem Inlay der Platten oder einem Booklet abgedruckt waren. Kölsch ist nun nicht gerade meine Muttersprache…
Heute liegt X für’e U auf dem Plattenteller, ein Album, das 1990 in die Läden kam, als die Mauer gerade gefallen war und ich noch kaum ein Jahr Soldat war.
Für mich eines der leichteren Alben von BAP. Wir alle kennen politische Anlässe, zu denen BAP Lieder gemacht hat, wie Kristallnaach, Zehnter Juni oder eben auch Denn mir sinn widder wer, in dem Niedecken die deutsche Wiedervereinigung verarbeitet. Das ist aber auch das einzige Lied mit gesellschaftlichem Hintergrund, das sich auf der Platte findet. Der Rest ist Musik um der Musik willen. Zwischenmenschliches, alltägliches und die Kleinigkeiten, die den Alltag ausmachen, sind die bestimmenden Themen, die mal rockig, mal mit einem Hauch Bob Dylan oder Phil Collins daherkommen.
X für’e U ist ein Album zum Genießen, nicht um sich über die Gesellschaft an und für sich aufzuregen. Und trotzdem hat man das Gefühl, bei jeder Textzeile zu sagen: „Ja, genau so ist es! Recht hat er!“
Mein gerettetes Album scheint tatsächlich aus dem Jahr 1990 zu stammen. Ich bin froh, dass es die Jahre so gut überstanden hat. Nachdem ich Cover, Inlay, Booklet und auch die Scheibe an sich von dicken Schichten Staub und Nikotin befreit habe, so gut es geht, macht es wahnsinnig Spaß, diese schönen, alten Stücke wieder zu hören. Mein Lieblingslied? Ach, ich weiß nicht. Das melancholische Bleifoos vielleicht, oder auch Freio (mit dem Anklang von Bob Dylon). Und natürlich der Aufmacher Wir sinn widder wer. Aber eigentlich kann ich mir alle Songs immer wieder anhören!

Over the sea to #Skye on the MV Glenachulish, the world’s last manually-operated #turntable #ferry.
Its unique design allows it to navigate the challenging docking conditions without much #infrastructure, allowing up to six cars to be transported on the deck, which the crew ** rotate by hand ** when it reaches its slipway.

The vessel was saved in 2007 when it was bought by the local community after its long-term skipper retired.

Felt like texturing something I didn't make for practice. Basically digital miniature painting.
The model is this mimic by Yasashii Kyojin Studio on Thingiverse.
The brick floor is this one from polyhaven.
This took me probably about 4 or 5 hours of work. A surprising amount of work went into getting the boundaries sharp and in the right place. I almost feel like it might have been less work to model and sculpt it from scratch and keep the materials separated by object. I might have to do a mimic of my own soon.
The turntable video is rendered in #Eevee and the still is rendered in #Cycles. Unfortuntately, I forgot to turn on screen-space reflections for Eevee.

Ich mag es ja, wenn sich ein paar Klassiker auf meinem Drehteller tummeln.
Und Joe Cocker hat da so einige im Portfolio!
Seine Bühnenauftritte waren etwas besonderes, sicher auch aufgrund seiner linkischen Bewegungen am Mikro, aber natürlich auch, weil man ihm durchaus ansah, was er so alles mit seinem Körper angestellt hatte. Das ultimative Wiedererkennungsmerkmal ist aber sicher bis heute seine erstaunliche Stimme, die sich für mich immer noch anhört wie ein nahendes Gewitter.
Sei es With a little help of my friends, Summer in the City, You are so beautiful oder Up where we belong – es sind Lieder, für die man noch einen Augenblick im Auto sitzen bleibt, das klingelnde Telefon abwürgt und die Kopfhörer noch ein bisschen länger trägt.
Heute dreht sich auf dem Teller The Life of a Man, und die Scheibe bietet einen schönen audiophilen Blick auf das, was Joe Cocker so bekannt und beliebt machte: Seine einzigartige Stimme.

A nice little micro turnable that unfortunately wouldn't sing for me. This style where the idler wheel directly spins against the record almost never works well (the wheel is sometimes directly under the stylus!) but it's pretty ambitious for one of this size to also have a radio built-in. And the carrying case is neat too!
