29/03/2024 - Sunny morning and a visit to a new Tump, Court Hill near Aboyne. Walk started along the old trainline then a bit of off track to go find the top hiding amongst all the lovely trees. As it was so nice today we decided to carry on and try and find St Machar's Cross (Early Medieval cross incised stone) and holy well. A nice feeling of away from it all. We sat in the sunshine and had our butties. I could feel warmth from the sun.

17/03/2024 - First new Tump of the year for us. A visit to Ley Hill down the old railway line from Banchory. It was a lovely sunny morning. The hill has five 110m contours so the actual top was whichever one you fancied the look of. The most southern one looked good to us. Don't think we will chase the Tumps too much this year but always nice to visit a new one.

25/12/2023 - A rainy Christmas Day. A short walk from the house that turned into a long one. A stone circle with a trigpoint. A new Tump. A stone that had its own wall. A very nice day out. Sleepy now.

@hannu_ikonen Thx for posting that. Very interesting. So many parallels to today. Although, like his hands, everything of #tumps is smaller. Hitler spoke to tens of thousands, #trump can barely fill a HS gymnasium, the oathkeepers and proud boys aren’t nearly as organized.
But as was just reported by Alex Wagner, 400,000 votes in 6 swing states decided 2016. It will be equally close in 2024, and the #RadicalRight has spent the intervening 8 years destroying voting rights.

05/11/2023 - A new Tump for us half way up Glen Muick, Auchnacraig Hill. Protected by trees, it was a really lovely walk up through larch in autumn colours. We descended south to have lunch overlooking the remains of an old township. Just a lovely location in the sunshine to sit and relax. The day was too good to go back just yet so we headed south to revisit the trig on Fasheilach. A peaceful day out in the hills nicely finished by a visit to the village bonfire.

02/07/2023 - After yesterday's rain it was good to wake up to a dry day. We spent the morning at Sumburgh Head. It's a great place for puffins. We also got very lucky with a sighting of a Pacific swift! Afternoon visit to St Ninian's Bay. I was tired today.
PuffinCam at Sumburgh Head, Shetland. I love this webcam!

01/07/2023 - Our run of good weather came to an end. Today it chucked it down for most of the day. Still had a good day out though. We headed north to try and dodge the rain but it found us in the end. Some nice views of landscape, birds and flowers. Bonus Tump with trigpoint at Esha Ness.

26/06/2023 - After 3 days on Mainland Shetland we moved on north through Yell to Unst. Rainy in the morning so we hid in a coffee shop. Afternoon was better so we headed up Crussa Field for a walk. Top hill for ancient cairns, it's got at least 8! Magic place with great views.

25/06/2023 - A sunny walk in the lovely named Button Hills above Brae. Fell asleep for an hour or so at Souther Hill trigpoint where we had our sandwiches. It's a peaceful place. Lots of Bonxie, Golden plover and Dunlin on the hill. On the way back we visited two cairns next to each other, one a heel-shaped cairn. Both in not great condition but nice to see and a good location. A nice day taken slow.

24/06/2023 - A day of clouds in the morning and sunshine in the afternoon. It was warm. We went for a walk from Brae to Muckle Roe and back over the hills. Three Tumps, a trigpoint, prehistory and the most northerly chippy in Great Britain. A top day out. Tired feet but happy.

23/06/2023 - A sunny visit to Beorgs Of Uyea. West of North Roe at the top of mainland Shetland. Neolithic Axe Factory and a Chambered Cairn marked on the OS map proved too hard a pull to ignore. I've be wanting to visit here for years. Weather was just great. Two Tumps and a trigpoint on the way back too. Magic day out.

02/06/2023 - A sunny Friday walk. Early start from Spittal of Glenmuick. We walked up the lovely Allt Darrarie. Misty at first but soon burnt off to leave a blue sky and warm sunshine day. We made our way to the Black Hill of Mark than down to follow the river to visit the Shielin of Mark. We sat and had our butties here. Afternoon by the time we left, a bash up and over to Cul nan Gad [The Cairns] for another sit and then finally back to the start. A really lovely day out in the hills.

27/05/2023 - Saturday morning on Carn Tiekeiver. I always wake up early on a bivi, unlike Mrs Spaceways who can sleep forever. It started getting light at 3am. Chilly but OK tucked up in my sleeping bag. Just wonderful to lie there, watching the sky slowly lighten and then the sun rise at 4.30am. We got up, had coffee and breakfast. Very sleepy. I like this time of day on a hill. Started heading back at 7am after 10 lovely hours spent on the top. A proper magic adventure.

26/05/2023 - Friday night bivi on Carn Tiekeiver. A long walk up the River Gairn to the ruins of Lochbuilg Lodge for tea. Then the final climb to the top. Got there round 9pm. Our bivi spot was just off the top at 758m. Really quiet, just us and a big landscape. Weather was good, little wind and dry. Temp dropped to 4 overnight. So light at this time of year. Didn't sleep long but really enjoyed being tucked up in my bivi gazing up at the slowly changing skies, clouds and stars.

20/05/2023 - Finally got round to visiting the Tumps above the Prince's Stone, north of Lochnagar. It was a long day but just great to make the top starting from Crathie, something I've been wanting to do for a while. This approach is really quiet too. Weather was cloudy and a bit drizzly, photos look a bit dull but it was very good conditions for walking. Ptarmigan & Ring ouzel on the hill. Lots of Butterworts too. Tired legs on the way back but happy Spaceways.

13/05/2023 - Last walk of our trip to the Angus Glens. Starting from Backwater Reservoir, we headed north via Eskielawn to visit Bruntshields. The morning cloud soon burnt off and the rest of the day was sunny and warm. Quiet walk, we sat at the top for sandwiches, stayed a few hours, it was too nice to leave. Popped up the little Tump Little Ley at the end just to round the holiday off nicely.

12/05/2023 - Grey and cloudy day today. Quick bob up Hill of Loyal near Alyth. New boots were a bit stiff, glad it wasn't too far. Then Peel Farm for lunch and a look around, they had pigs! Finished the day with a pint. We were both very sleepy today.

11/05/2023 - A day spent above Glen Isla. Early start, ice on the windscreen of the car. Sunscreen on by midday as the sun was strong by then. Afternoon was a different story again, heavy rain that just kept coming. We were there to visit a few Tumps we'd not been to before. Morning was so nice we walked on to Mayar and had our sandwiches there, the view was just wonderful. A great day out.

10/05/2023 - Morning walk to dodge the rain coming in the afternoon. A couple of Tumps from Backwater Reservoir. I like it round here. The tops (Black Binks & Cuilt Hill) weren't that far or high but a little steep in places and we were walking faster than our usual snail's pace to get back to the car before the rain. Two really nice tops, we did take the long way round to avoid lambs. A lovely morning walk in Angus.

09/05/2023 - We woke to blue skies after yesterday's rain. The sunshine was a very welcome sight. Today's walk was a visit to Tops of Fichell, a Tump in Glen Clova starting from Gella bridge. Hill track most of the way so the walk was nice. It even felt a bit warm. We sat near the top for lunch and a little doze for a few hours. The views were really good up Glen Clova and also far south to the Pentland hills. This was our 1400th Tump and it was a good one.

07/05/2023 - A day in the clouds. 9 hours walking Tumps above Glen Clova. Starting in the rain at Glen Clova hotel, up the track to Loch Brandy and on to Green Hill. We had entered the cloud at around 350m and it stayed all day. It was then a round of 7 Tumps in the gloom. Tough going at times as loads of peat hags plus a couple of rivers to cross. Navagation was tricky in the mist. We made Wester Balloch which was just great and came back via The Snub. Wet feet but a magic day out.
-
06/05/2023 - Back on the T4s of the 3Cs. We've been slowly plodding away, visiting Tumps (hills with at least 30m drop) above 400m in the 3 counties of Aberdeenshire, Angus and Moray. There's 521 of them. Probably won't visit them all at our slow rate but it's good fun trying. First new ones of the year today on the south side of Glen Clova, Coremachy and Cairn of Barns. Cloudbase was low but still a very nice walk.

Trying to remember if I include trigs I've visited in Ireland in my total trig count! Different network to OSGB I know but I think I will. Just got to remember how many I've been to now, it's not that many. Wish it was more.
Same with Tumps (hills with at least 30 metres drop on all sides). Though I don't think anyone's got round to making a list of Irish Tumps yet?
