  1. The NED is a great cultural project, where every publication covered by #Copyright is required by law to be submitted in electronic form, for the Australian national cultural records. This content forms the feed-in for #TROVE, our cultural archive and access system.

It's been a real privilege to work with such a great team, whose enthusiasm to meet the needs of publishers provides an archetypical example of what the public service should be at its best. (2/2)

  2. @massivelyop perhaps housing in #trove I really couldn't care less about housing but I did spend a little bit of time making my little house with a gigantic unicorn on top. I was proud of that one. Also the housing in #DuneAwakening was really easy to use and kind of cool with the power system and such.

  3. Working my way through the #BritishLibrary #FantasticFutures conference & enjoyed the #Trove presentation in this session youtu.be/igBQXvGKRaI?si=I3sXC2 Admit to being shocked that several later questions indicated that some attendees were unaware/suspicious of Trove crowdsourcing.

  4. One project I want to work on When I Have More Time™ is to research the records about my grandfather, John Borland Cumming (1891–1976), who was Australian director of food and petrol rationing between 1942 and 1946 (I think).

He was a model public servant who acted without fear or favour and always properly. My mother used to complain that they never got any special treatment (extra coupons or anything) in spite of the power he had.

JBC was a staunch Presbyterian who lived those Christian values. He never received honours because he was “neither Mick nor Mason” (in his words). He has no entry in the Australian Dictionary of Biography, which is something I want to remedy.

My attempts at using #Trove and National Archives online to find records have not turned up anything useful. I need to learn how to use these resources effectively.

I will be in #Canberra for a few days in mid August. Is it worth my while going to the National Library or National Archives and asking for help in person?
