  1. Wrote some thoughts about and reactions to the referendum result last week. Helped to reflect and clear some things up in my mind.

Australia. What the fuck is wrong with you?

So sad and angry right now.

Today is #TheVoiceToParliament referendum day, Saturday 14 October 2023.

And over in #GodzOwn it is the day before an important #Rugby game for the #AllBlacks! and something something election.

Though I'm hearing that the French will sabotage the broadcast if some enthusiasm for the election doesn't appear.

  5. 'Australians had the opportunity to accept our invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart....
I hope I’m wrong, but everything around me is saying that today Australia will reject that invitation. It will choose to leave our hand outstretched.'

  6. There definitely wasn’t enough time for people to refresh, research, and arrange mature debates leading up to today, like what was described by SBS here:

At work, it felt like a lot of people really leaned towards the 'If you don't know, Vote no.'. Very few people had an understanding of Indigenous history that led to this point of feeling 'The Voice' is needed.

No matter the ultimate result, this feeling of frustration is what many will likely remember Australian Labor by…

  7. ‘Yes’ Campaigner explains the role of parliamentarians in a liberal democracy to a ‘senior’ parliamentarian.

*slow clap* … the ‘Lack of details’ argument from the ‘No’ campaign is complete bull.

  8. I’ve said this before, and after reading this, I’ll say it again, this referendum was recklessly rushed into…

The average Australian doesn’t study indigenous studies at University, to understand the importance of ‘self-determination’.
The average Australian doesn’t have exposure to the history of indigenous affairs, and how it’s developed up to today.
The average Australia doesn’t do ‘research’ beyond their mates and their usual media channels.
The average Australia probably threw away the pamphlets thinking it was junk mail.

  9. The electoral results of a single issue is hardly an accurate indicator of public sentiment of government as a whole.

But the referendum does feel rushed… Albanese has a lot to answer to the ‘Yes’ supporters, if the referendum fails.

  10. Reading the comments under posts by the Australian Electoral Commission is incredibly depressing...

For one, people accusing the AEC of offering pencils at voting booths so that they can change people's votes.

How can anyone seriously believe that in a system they imagine to be entirely corrupt, the method of changing the votes would be to manually go through the votes of millions of people and tediously erase and re-write each ballot with the desired outcome?

  11. #TheVoiceToParliament aims to gather representative views, ideas and needs from across urban and rural First Nations people.

If you like to know things, rather than just giving up (like that dude who said, 'if you don't know, just give up and walk away) because Indigenous lives & Australia's future is on the line, then 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐬 have lots of info...

  12. Walked in the Yes Walk in Canberra today. 1800 ppl expected, it seemed like a lot more than that!

Good event with some inspirational young, indigenous voices. Great to hear Johnny Farnham crossing generations, too.

Come on Australia, we took this country and all they're asking for is a Voice. It seems churlish not to give it a try.

“The “no” case misrepresents the scope and powers of the Voice, inaccurately explaining the constitutional limits on these while ignoring the practical and political limits.”

Hardly a surprise, especially as that nasty little racist, John Howard, is now telling his troops to “Maintain the rage” against giving Australia’s First Nations People a fair go #TheVoiceToParliament #VoteYESAustralia

  17. CW: voice to parliament

Solidarity with the Black Peoples Union.

My view on “the voice” is irrelevant comparatively, but my instinct is to support Aboriginal people in their fight for self determination, support grass roots unions, and that Aboriginal people deserve a hell of a lot better than what “the voice” offers.

They’ve told me they are happy to have support from respectful non members and non Aboriginal people on the day, so if you want to support Aboriginal voices this is one way to do it.

Thank you very much for posting this.

Looking like Australian politicians need to develop dadirri (deep listening) what with how aged care, Robodebt, abusive culture in Parliament, and lots more keep coming into the sunshine after years of being ignored by politicians.
And dadirri could be a great match with The Voice To Parliament.
