And supposedly I tell myself ill just use it for inspiration but it ends up being my only thought. And maybe to extend on #UseItOrLoseIt: If you have software that you are selling then the mere fact that you are selling it shouldn’t count as “using” under this provision. Basic maintenance (bug-fixes, adjustments to new hardware for example larger screens, …) should be required for that. And I’m not saying that there is any need to add meaningful amounts of content, port to significantly different plattforms, add new feature or do anything that is particularly expensive or a lot of effort; I’m saying that it is not okay to let a half-finished product succumb to bit-rot while using legal means to hinder others from doing the maintenance themselves.

None of this should be controversial and in some ways it’s even in the interest of the IP-holders, because it can help them foster communities that can trust that their beloved games will be available long-term and may produce free organic advertising in the long run instead of staying away from games purely based on the publisher alone.
