Thanks for the surprise spring cleaning! My entire Gemini chat history just vanished from the sidebar. It's "just a handshake error," my ass.
    Real reliable product there, Sundar.

  21. And now I find I have to create an account with #HPSmart to be able to print a document on a #HPPrinter from an #AndroidPhone.

    #ThanksIT #ThanksGoogle #ThanksTrump #ThanksCaptitalism

This would have been a 2 minute job on the desktop - including 90 seconds of walking.

  34. update:

    1. This is known to Bitwarden
    2. An extended list of browsers was relegated to a fido2 "community" list of packages
    3. The list is at least influenced by Google's choices
    4. Google seems to be, from the context I can gather, limiting how password managers and browsers can interact with each other by enforcing this whitelist behavior potentially OS-Wide or on Google Play. I need more info on this though.

In other words this is yet another blow to interoperability as Passkeys should be something unprivileged, it's not like Google will only let me input a password or 2FA if I'm using Chrome or Google Authenticator. That'd be stupid. Yet with Passkeys this seems fine? With Passkeys the idea of "lets only let some browsers use external passkeys" seems totally okay and totally doesn't stifle usability of other browsers that are not on the list

For context, one of the browsers that wasn't on the list here is Firefox Nightly. Not exactly some small indie browser or fork, just the Nightly version of an already supported browser. The solution here however shouldn't be to add FF Nightly to the list but for the requirement of this list to not exist in the first place.

I also don't subscribe to the point that an app may abuse access to this and that is why a whitelist is required as the OS already intercepts these requests and presents the user with a dialog - in theory Passkeys are never usable without user consent.

Currently, about 99 percent of your "online" mouse-clicks might get you hacked, cost you money, or otherwise harm you, or the people you care about.
