Who else is selling books through the Google Play Store (Partner Center)?
Do you also experience problems with sales reporting?
For me, reporting has been stuck on June 13th. Customer support only said "they were on it", and that was over a week ago.
Seriously, a tech giant cannot handle a sales database? Shame on them.

Google Scholar ist kaputt. Die domain hat keine ipv6, also verbindet sich mein browser via ipv4. Aber wenn ich auch Suchen klicke, dann gehts zu einer Domain mit ipv6 und ich werde blockiert:

Da haben wirs wieder. Wenn sich Lieferdienste lieber auf privatwirtschaftliche Anbieter (Google-Maps) verlassen, als auf hoheitliche Dienste mit korrekten Daten (bayerninfo.de), dann bekomme ich mein neues Sofa eben drei Wochen später als ursprünglich vom Händler avisiert.
Unnötig zu erwähnen, dass man bei einer Kartenkorrektur bei Google von der Willkür des Konzerns abhängig ist (d.h. passiert nicht), einem aber bei der staatlichen Stelle der Rechtsweg offen stünde.

Out of curiosity I clicked on the three dots about one search result and got this humdinger
"This result seems relevant even though these search terms may not appear" (where it listed all my search terms)

I understand that news orgs routinely pool their stories to save money. I suppose this is mostly Google's fault since they selected the stories. But couldn't news orgs try to be a little creative on their headlines and/or thumbnails? Sheesh.

The failure of "AI"
Understanding that Google search is not technically "AI" but it is essentially a LLM.
So, many mornings I make myself hashbrowns for breakfast. They turn out OK, but could be better, I think. I would be interested to see an actual short order cook at an actual diner making hashbrowns. Whether or not this actually helps my hashbrown making is irrelevant for this purpose.
You would think such a video exists, people make videos of street food vendors and people in restaurants cooking all the time.
If such a video exists, I don't think I will ever find it using Google. I have to wade through the bazillion results of home cooking blogs/vlogs and their secrets to "restaurant style" or "diner style" hashbrowns. As far as I can tell, none of them are wearing a heavy white apron and slinging hash at Bob's Diner.
So now, in my head, I am thinking of some way to "trick" Google into finding the results that I actually want. You would think after, what, fifteen years of being the leading search engine that Google could find what you actually want to see.

I don't have Google Assistant enabled. All notifications I can find in Settings are switched off.
And the notification does not appear in Google, Bing or DDG search results.

I've been noticing recently that when I use the "share location" function in Google Maps on my way to visit people, I often immediately get a location sharing invitation from them in return. Puzzled, I investigated. The UI at their end is wonderfully confusing 🙂 #DesignFreeZone #GoogleFail #TheDevZone #UI #UX

@mvario Random surprise factoid: I tried search.brave.com for the first time yesterday and it really feels like old Google. It is kind of weird and shocking to get the results you want on the first page of the search, and so many of them too*!
* At least for coding how-to searches anyway. Haven’t tried much else as of yet.

One of the ways in which the web is like an ecosystem is that a synthetic text spill in one part of it can leak into others. Here, someone has posted ChatGPT output (unclear to what end) and the Google indexed it.
I learned of this particular #GoogleFail via BlueSky user aviendha69's post:

The new raspberry pi imager is nice, but the resulting install, when you log in via ssh (even successfully) coughs up:
"Please note that SSH may not work until a valid user has been set up"
I'd like to remove the message, (because I just know it'll eventually confuse some automation), but I can't find it after grepping the entire pi file system and asking google.
Hence, my first question shouted into the mastoverse: Where does this message come from?
