Every 'Best Metroidvania' list always ignores one of my all-time favorites, Tevi. I get that the Hollow Knights of the world are technically superior, but I still wish it got included. Is its bullet hell/platforming hybrid gameplay for everyone? Probably not. Is its dorky anime storyline any good? Nah, but you can shut that off.
Is it a gem with beautiful pixel art, some great music, and generally all-around super fun to play?
Yes. Yes it is.

And now that my gaming year is about over, I'm gonna call it:
🏆 Tevi 🏆 was my favorite game this year.
I didn't especially dig the anime shenanigans, but I absolutely loved the combo of bullet-hell and metroidvania (bulletvania?). I've never played that particular combination before, and that, along with sharp, fun visuals, a cool (and occasionally awesome) soundtrack, and just an overall vibe of engaging fun make it my GOTY.

Right out of the gate, I didn't care for the shrill anime shenanigans in #Tevi, an #indiegame bullet-hell #metroidvania about a cutesy bunny girl - just a personal preference. I also don't think it put its best foot forward, opening in its blandest level.
However, as it progressed, it really started to knock it out of the park with beautiful pixel graphics, increasingly awesome boss fights, and a great soundtrack.
A surprise 9/10. Slow-burning at first, but became a real favorite!

#TEVI is a game about a rabbit-eared girl going out and proceeding to smack down a number of bullet hell antagonists in a bid to ensure her favourite waffle house doesn't shut down.
It's good, though. Very gay. Has a cute trans character who's never misgendered or anything. Can't speak completely for its ability to follow in the footsteps of Rabi-Ribi yet, as it appears slightly more linear in its progression about 4 hours in, but it's worth a snag if you liked the original. And hey, there's a demo. #gaming
