I have clients who don't know what a "file" is, nevermind how to download them from a webpage.
They are exclusively iPhone users.
Pretending this issue doesn't exist is what makes it worse.

I get 300-500mbps on my current #Digi mobile plan. They have been harassing me to "upgrade" to their new plan, which runs at "up to" 100mbps, for more money. With barefaced lies that my current plan is slow and outdated.
Millions fall for this scam every year.

For over a decade, #Samsung referred to storage space on their products as "ROM".
Not only did they get away with it, much of the world considered them a leading authority in technology, and followed suit; paying Samsung billions of dollars along the way. While Samsung recently dropped the practice, the damage was already done.

Seems we don't do that any more.
Instead, we now spend more and more resources catering for #techilliteracy the more we depend on technology. -

The biggest recent loss is #techilliteracy at universities. Self-hosting may be out of reach to a large portion of households but if you go to univerisity today it’s a quite depressing sight.E.g. Do an MX lookup on mit.edu. The answer:

Indeed, #MIT where you expect to find the biggest brains and they’ve dumbed tech down to where they cannot even handle hosting their own email service.
A university campus should be a highly capable self-serving village with minimal dependency on the outside world. Universities should be leaders, not followers. Students should have campus jobs to run in-house services and inherently learn from experience.
If the university outsources everything and demonstrates dependency, of course it’s going to produce graduates who are dependent and incapable.
IMO there needs to be a university comparison project that tests competency by measuring what they outsource both in terms of commercial closed-source software and services.
