Lese immer noch wie bescheuert an dieser fetten #Lovecraft-Bio von #STJoshi. Jetzt bei Kap. 13 (S. 505). Bin erstaunt, wie wenig da außer Akribie rummkommt (woher stammt das Briefpapier?!).
Joshi liefert zu JEDEM Gedicht, jeder Erzählung Nacherzählungen und ›Analysen‹, schafft es aber nur selten, etwas halbwegs Erhellendes über HPLs Leben oder Umfeld beizutragen.
Mach jetzt nebenbei weiter mit #XFiles-Rewatch. Dank an Vergangenheits-Alex fürs Mitdenken!

Exemplarisches Beispiel für enervierend-putzige Akribie von #STJoshi bei seiner #Lovecraft-Biographie. Bin mittlerweile auf S. 106 von Band eins, Kapitel 3 das HPLs Lebensjahre 11-15 behandelt. Er hat Astronomie für sich entdeckt und Joshi schildert einen Absatz lang erstmal genau Erscheinungsweise der selbstgemachten Hektographie-Magazine.
Das Buch ist VOLL mit derartigen pedantischen Aufzählereien.

Komischer aber passender Zufall, daß ich #STJoshi-Bio über #Lovecraft lese (weil günstig in Antiquas ergattert) und nebenbei läuft #TBBT (mittlerweile Staffel 7) und ich immer wieder die lustigsten Dialoge zwischen diesen beiden Sachen erlebe.
Führt dazu, daß in meinem Phantasie-Theater Jim Parson HPL darstellt.

Die Woche zuhause richtig mit #Lovecraft-Bio von #STJoshi begonnen. Pedantik grenzt an unfreiwilliger Komik.
Hab zudem heut früh die HPL-Folge der John Howe-Doku-Serie bei #ArteTV geguckt, wo Joshi auch vorkommt. Wirklich extrem peinlich diese sentimentale Fanboi-Verklärung. Da wird man ja quasi GEZWUNGEN extra-polemisch gegenzuhalten, daß zB Lovecrafts Ruhm mehr auf externen Faktoren beruht, weniger auf Werk-Güte.

Lasse mich schön langsam auf #STJoshi|s Magnum Opus »#Lovecraft — Leben und Werk« (1996; 2010 / Dt. von Andreas Fliedner 2017, 2019) ein. Band eins für’n Zehner aus’m Antiqua gezogen, Band zwei für’n Zwanni antiquarisch gefunden.
Hab mir gegönnt, mit Resümee im letzten Kapitel zu beginnen. Bin ehrlich baff, was für Windungen Joshi da hinlegt. Da fehlt merklich Distanz.
Würde Unbeleckten mit Lovecraft-Interesse derweil ehrlich raten, lieber zur schmalen Monographie von Houellebecq zu greifen.
