Free Americana Star Coaster Crochet Pattern

There’s something about handmade decorations that makes a holiday feel just a little more special. • Worsted weight cotton yarn
• 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Cotton yarn is recommended because it holds its shape well and stands up nicely to everyday use.

Pattern Notes

Blocking is recommended to help the star points open up and lay flat.

Feel free to experiment with color placement. While I chose classic Americana colors, this design looks beautiful in farmhouse neutrals, coastal blues, Christmas colors, or any combination that matches your décor.

Finishing

Once you’ve woven in all of the ends, gently block the coaster to help define the points of the star. A light steam block or wet block works well, depending on the fiber you’re using.

If you’re making a set, stack them together with a ribbon for an easy handmade gift that’s both practical and personal.

Make It Your Own

One of my favorite things about simple patterns like this is how easily they can be customized.

Try making a set in soft blues and sandy beige for a coastal look, rich burgundy and cream for farmhouse style, or festive reds and greens for the holidays. The same design can be enjoyed all year with just a change of color.

If you have leftover cotton yarn from previous projects, this is also a great way to put those small scraps to good use.

I've finished making a pair of cosy house socks for my Mum's Christmas present (not pictured to avoid spoilers for her) and I thought I'd make myself a pair as well, using up some of the scrap yarn I am working my way through.

They fit but they're a bit slippery on the laminate so I've added some liquid rubber to the under side and I'm just waiting for that to cure so I can have comfy feet without going A over T in the living room

An absolute stashbuster, it's used up all my bright acrylic cheap yarn from charity shops and leftovers. Ended up about 1m square. I may edge it - see how well it blocks.

I've been making a few bits for my work desk this week. This is the latest one - a mat to sit under my keyboard!
The keyboard clacks too much when it's just on the desk, so I whipped up this granny rectangle to sit under it, and its great!
I'm now working on a desk tidy basket to put all the little bits and bobs that sit on my desk in, so they're all contained.

I am #making a car seat cushion for my other half to use to help ease his stenosis, which is often triggered by driving. Found an old bit of tweed for the cover in a drawer. I am feeling that I now need a hat with a veil and #motoring gloves. 😇 #Sewing #Upcycling #StashBuster

I've done one side with colour and the other plain black, so I have a couple of options, and I've used a zip to help with this rather than having a flap like my other one.

I also have a peace lily, which is currently just one leaf, and I'll see how she fairs, and then I have some lego daffodils, which I will put together on a lunchtime.
