Two windows by Harry Harvey for #StainedGlassSunday, in different northern Anglican cathedrals. On the left St Wilfrid, 1977 in Ripon Cathedral, and on the right the Baptism of Christ, 1987, in Carlisle Cathedral. A third northern Cathedral, Sheffield, has a delightful Works of Mercy window by him.

A detail of 'Christ With a Child' In St Tysilio's Church, Bryneglwys, #Denbighshire. The glass was given in about 1896 to the memory of John Yale, by his parents. John died aged 31, but choosing to use a portrait of him as a child is really affecting, I think. #StainedGlassSunday

The magnificent Jesse Window in the village church at Llanrhaeadr, near #Denbigh. It's thought to date from the early 16th century and may have been lifted from Basingwerk Abbey in #Flintshire at the time of its Dissolution. The most complete #medieval window in North #Wales. #StainedGlassSunday

This charming lancet window is in St Lawrence's, Church Stretton, #Shropshire. When I snapped it, I assumed it was modern but apparently it dates from the 18th century. #StainedGlassSunday

The countdown to Christmas has begun with the arrival of Advent and who knew, it's also been designated Stained Glass Sunday!
So, two good reasons to post this example of some rather beautiful stained glass that I photographed on a visit to the Grade I listed Church of St Lawrence in village of Warkworth, Northumberland.

Unusual stained glass in St Chad's Church, Farndon, in #Cheshire, both for its date and subject matter. It was commissioned in about 1660 by #Royalist squire William Barnston to celebrate his success defending the city of Chester from #Parliamentarian forces in 1643-5. #StainedGlassSunday #CivilWar

I posted a panel of modern glass at Llanasa in #Flintshire a couple of weeks ago for #StainedGlassSunday. The church of St Asaph & St Cyndeyrn also boasts some early 16th century glass. Here we have: a Bishop (presumably St Asaph), St Catherine, St James the Great and St Lawrence. #church #medieval

These striking First World War commemorative windows can be found in the #Victorian Christ Church, Rossett, on the #Wrexham and #Cheshire border. The glass was designed by A J Davies in 1925. I like the fact that they pay tribute to the healers as well as to the fighters. #StainedGlassSunday

The Devil gets busy in the corner of a window (I assume #Victorian) in the Church of St Mary and St Cynfarch, Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd in #Denbighshire. I couldn't find any info on the stained glass in the window and I'm not even sure who it is he's whispering to. Judas, maybe? #StainedGlassSunday

95 years ago #OTD 5 October 1930, Michael Rope was killed in the R101 airship disaster. His sister Margaret made the glass for the church built in his memory at Kesgrave, Ipswich. His widow Lucy cared for the church until her death 71 years later in 2001. #StainedGlassSunday
