  1. From our concrete over the Cotswolds correspondent.

"Large swathes of land across north and north east Bristol look set to be made the subject of a Mayoral Development Zone, which could give metro mayor Helen Godwin powers to bypass local council authority to order the building of thousands of new homes.

The zone will instead be managed by a Mayoral Development Corporation - a public-private partnership involving both South Gloucestershire Council, the West of England Combined Authority, landowners and developers."

  2. 1) The remains of Golden Valley Red Ochre Factory
    2) A patch of the raw material, nearby
    3) A plaque commemorating the Works.
It closed in 1970, after a severe flood of R. Boyd (which had powered the works).

  5. The understated gateway to Tracy Park, South Glos.
I almost expected to see Lady Penelope's 6-wheeler Rolls Royce.

  6. A pair of direction signs, at an unassuming crossroads in South Gloucestershire.
Note the War Department symbol on one of them.
    These are 'Listed Buildings'

  7. The remains of the Ochre Factory, in Golden Valley, South Glos. It closed after the disastrous flood of 1969 (or so said the noticeboard).
If you ever wondered what ochre looks like, the 2nd pic shows a nearby outcrop.

  8. Warmley Signal Box & Waiting Room (you'd wait a long, long time for a train. The Mangotsfield and Bath branch line closed in 1971.).
The signal box is maintained in (sort of) working order, for school visits & the like.
The Waiting Room offers a range of snacks & drinks Brit Rail never managed.

  10. So thrilled to have a sunny, dry day today after so many endless grey, wet days. Trees formed beautiful silhouettes against the watery blue winter's sky at the iron age hillfort at Horton, South Gloucestershire.
