  1. Day 20 of my #SolsticeCountdown and only 1 sleep to the #WinterSolstice !!! In anticipation of Spring (yes I know, getting ahead of myself) here is one of the truly magnificent ancient trees at Croft Castle in Herefordshire #Solstice #tree #ThickTrunkTuesday

  2. Day 19 of my #SolsticeCountdown and 2 sleeps to the #WinterSolstice I spotted this while walking in a nearby village in December 2020. We’d had various lockdowns and someone had made a lovely little seaside themed adventure trail for a child. The worst often brings out the best #winter #December

  3. Day 18 of my #SolsticeCountdown and 3 sleeps to the #WinterSolstice I am so tempted to go back to bed but it looks like I’ve let it go cold. A new day awaits. Goes to fill coffee machine….. #winter #December #SundaySigns #arrow

  4. Day 17 of my #SolsticeCountdown and 4 sleeps to the #WinterSolstice This is Flip, sadly no longer with us. Short for Flippin’ ‘Eck and the most mischievous animal we’ve ever shared our home with #winter #December #cat #caturday

  5. Day 15 of my #SolsticeCountdown and 6 sleeps to the #WinterSolstice I took this photo of our neighbours’ dog one December day in 2010. He and his owners moved to pastures new and we lost touch. I have fond memories of ‘Brun’ because he was just so darned laid back and friendly. A Bearded Collie whose coat refused to grow long. #snow #dog #winter #BeardedCollie

  6. Day 14 of my #SolsticeCountdown and 7 sleeps to the #WinterSolstice Fluish colds and coughs abound - I think we may have been cursed 😱 Another economy 2-in-1 post #snow #winter #SheepOfMastodon #sheep

  7. Day 12 of my #SolsticeCountdown and 9 sleeps to the #WinterSolstice The frost has brought us a winter wonderland of ridiculous Christmas card picturesqueness #frost #trees #rural #cold #winter #scenic #countryside

  8. Day 11 of my #SolsticeCountdown and 10 sleeps to the #WinterSolstice A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush? No! Let them fly! The house sparrow (Passer domesticus) or ‘spuggie’. On the UK red list would you believe 🤷🏻‍♀️

  9. Ps I’ve been getting my #SolsticeCountdown #WinterSolstice sleeps count wrong - maths never was my strong point. Think I’m back on track now 🙄

  10. Day 10 of my #SolsticeCountdown and 11 sleeps to the #WinterSolstice We haven’t got to this stage yet (pic is hoar frost on Hartside Pass) but it’s quite nippy here - a longish run of freezing or below and more to come 🥶 In other news I have discovered that there is a #TelegraphPoleAppreciationSociety !

  11. Day 9 of my #SolsticeCountdown and 13 sleeps to the #WinterSolstice Why the long faces? I know, but who can resist 🤷🏻‍♀️ This is from a few years ago - currently we only have a very sparse covering of the white stuff #horses #snow #winter (Forgot to say in the alt text that the horses are wearing quilted blankets to keep them warm)

  12. Day 8 of my #SolsticeCountdown and 14 sleeps to the #WinterSolstice It is cold. I have cold 😪🤧 Wallowing in guilt ridden #SelfPity until I’m forced to snap out of it…

  13. Day 7 of my #SolsticeCountdown and 15 sleeps to the #WinterSolstice Local #pub is up for sale 😢 A place for convivial evenings, meeting with mates, celebratory family meals (there was an excellent vegetarian menu), and a welcome for journey makers #LowHesket #Cumbria #RoseAndCrown #Inglewood

  14. Day 5 of my #SolsticeCountdown and 16 sleeps to the #WinterSolstice - a cheery encounter on one of my local routes

  15. Day 3 #SolsticeCountdown 18 sleeps until the #WinterSolstice I’m not choosing my #December themed photos on artistic merit, it’s just stuff I see on my walks. This is an economy post and should do for #ShedsOfMastodon and #SheepOfMastodon too! These are young #herdwick #sheep maybe in the low pasture for the winter, taken to higher ground in summer, but I’m not certain of that

  16. Day 2 #SolsticeCountdown (and yes I now realise I’m counting up 🙄) Another #December themed photo. If you look closely the field is covered in a sea of gossamer threads, helpfully illuminated by the sun’s rays. These are, I think, the work of the tiny money spider. Amazing eh?

  17. Day 1. So, my intention is to post a December themed photo every day as a #SolsticeCountdown Hope I remember. This one is from last year on a local bike ride. #Cumbria
