Now hear me out please and let me know if this is wildly out. Lots of talk about taxing billionaires. But I *think* you might find it wouldn't even cover one week's worth of change recently in the budget black hole let alone give loads of dosh to spend on pet projects. UK's 55 billionaires if similar to those across the world, would be "worth" about $296bn in total. Not even 3/4 of a Musk. If you were to tax that capital value at 5% (a simple proxy for the entire income flow fro $296bn invested) you'd get just $14bn a year in extra tax.
If you want to tax better, stop looking at merely how much people have. And as Churchill said in his enlightened days as a #Georgist Liberal ask instead "how did you get it" and reward those who produce the wealth and tax those who take the surplus generated by the whole of society. #abolishtaxes #sharetherents #makepovertyhistory

@DannyYee As is right. Shelter is a cost of living, like food, transport and fuel. And capital always depreciates. The only things that make shelter more costly after forty years are the desperation of others and the contribution of the entire community to maintaining an in demand location, values that should go back to that community.
