How is it that giving away free money in the form of a "Basic Income" has become such a cause celebre whereas Henry George's #SingleTax which will do far more to create a just economy and coincidentally leave enough money to fund a "Citizens Dividend" if wanted remains obscure?
Everyone moans about taxes, most of which the "#SingleTax" would end, supercharging the economy, rewarding investment/work, cutting up front cost of living in the form of reduced land rents.
Many still struggle in the meantime to explain where "Basic Income" would be paid from.

#valueourplanetNote, I have no ideological problem with using the surplus of the community collection of location rents over what government requires to spend, as a free dividend, but that is a very different beast from a defined "income" that needs to be funded come what may.

It is perfectly plausible to abolish #incometax, #capitalgainstax, #corporationtax, #vat, #inheritancetax, #nationalinsurance and any other imposts on production and wealth *creation*. The #singletax on land values and economic rents of #henrygeorge can easily fill the gap.

✡️ Today's Jew of the Day is Emma Lazarus!
Emma Lazarus was a poet and activist for Jewish and Georgist causes. Her most famous work is "The New Colossus". A quote from the The New Colossus is inscribed on a plaque near the Statue of Liberty.
Lazarus believed in equality and the single tax movement. She also worked to assist Jews fleeing pogroms in Eastern Europe, despite the fact that she herself came from a wealthy family of Sephardi Jews who had come to New York City (then New Amsterdam) in the Jewish arrival in New Amsterdam in 1654. She helped found the Hebrew Technical Institute and the Society for the Improvement and Colonization of East European Jews.
Her poems and positions appeared in many newspapers and publications of the time.
Many historians credit Lazarus for shaping the self-identity of the United States.

Having a #singletax on land would encourage such densification. All these cities are regarded as achingly beautiful to visitors so there's no conflict there, and many of them use as much/little of the land within the 5km circles as Oxford/Cambridge do.

@ChrisMayLA6 Though no party has really understood and if they have believed in the solution for a century: the #SingleTax on land and other economic rents, simultaneously reducing the cost of living, and the housing crisis, while turbo-charging production and labour's share of it! Perhaps because their preferred solutions require politicians to "ride to the rescue" whilst all the time making the problems worse!
