Version 0.19.1—one day I’ll be ready, psychologically, for a 1.0 release—addresses 3 bugs. One had to do with image uploads failing on certain PHP installs. 11. One of WordPress’ block editor’s “nastiest” quirks is how it deals with “classic” meta boxes, including the Custom Fields panel.

It’s why in my ActivityPub add-on plugin, I had to “delay” federation to a later hook (than transition_post_status [and use a static variable to temporarily store the new and old post statuses], but only when rather specific conditions are met).

Anyhoo, I literally wrote about this countless times, and still occasionally get it wrong.

  15. Playing with multiple account support for Share on Mastodon.

Right now, all posts (that are crossposted) get crossposted to one and the same account. (I.e., your WordPress install acts a Mastodon client, for a single account, and a single instance.)

Having different settings for each and every user is a whole lot trickier, though.

Like, you could have multiple users on one instance, and then more users on other instances. Ideally, you’d autoregister—this all happens in the background—as a client application only once per instance.

But how do you guarantee “old” instance details aren’t outdated, etc.? And do you then store them in a custom table? And so on.

(The current implementation isn’t necessarily great either, because if you were to somehow wipe your client details, WordPress would just re-register itself and be given a new client ID from the instance you entered.)

  20. Looks like #ShareOnMastodon also reposted old #Wordpress posts from 2010 when I edited them. This actually wasn't intended, but I'll leave it at that, given the favs. ;-)

  22. I've noticed that my automated sharing of blog posts to Mastodon using the #ShareOnMastodon plugin seems to be broken.

From the looks of it, it broke earlier this week, and I think it happened when I installed and activated the #DocketCache plugin to enable persistent object caching, as recommended by #WordPress's "site health" feature.

Part of enabling Docket Cache (at least on #DreamHost) involves disabling Wordpress's built-in WP-CRON and replacing it with a cron job on Dreamhosts's end. I'm wondering if that might be part of the problem.

I've enabled debugging for both Wordpress and Share on Mastodon, so hopefully I'll have some better details to send @janboddez's way soon (tagging only for a heads-up at this point, since I'm still gathering information).

In the meantime, if you're interested in following my blog, RSS or going straight to the source will be your best bet. Last time I tried the #ActivityPub plugin, I couldn't get it working correctly because my blog's in a subdirectory, and I haven't revisited it yet to see if getting that working is any easier now than it was back then.

Figuring out WordPress issues is a lot less fun when you can only do it in fits and starts in the evenings or on weekends. I really need to figure out how to suddenly be independently wealthy so I can just dive into a problem until it's solved instead of this piecemeal crap.

  26. @MikeEL @pfefferle

#ActivityPub posts only appear on the #fediverse to those who follow your #wordpress instance account.

Additional plugins, such as #ShareOnMastodon and #shareonpixelfed which share your wordpress posts to your personal :fedi: accounts do not work (show no signs of continued development (?))

While #mastodonautopost doesn’t seem to support featured images or consistent link card display.

    I’m battling frustration myself.

  29. #Wordpress question relating to three :fedi: plugins:

    #ActivityPub
(Makes WP its own federated instance)
    ✅Successfully instantiates Wordpress.
❌Fails to create posts on the newly federated account.

    #ShareOnMastodon
    (Posts to existing #Mastodon account)
❌ Fails to create posts on linked account.

    #ShareOnPixelfed
    (Posts to existing #Pixelfed account)
✅ Successfully creates posts on linked account.

    Anyone else having issues?
    Any solution recommendations?
