  1. Now that I’ve successfully avoided FPGA-hell (thanks Quentin!) I used my copious free time to slide into GPIO-hell. I don’t have a screen or serial console at the moment on the Rock 4 SE, but whatever magic @armbian is trying to do in the fixup script to get 1Wire configured didn’t work here (see also github.com/MichaIng/DietPi/iss) and turned my GPIO4_D2 into "gpios = <0x8a 0x04 0x00 0xae>;” instead of “gpios = <0x1a 0x1a 0x00>;” that I need. Yay for handwritten DTSs!

  13. Armbian on the Rock 4SE SBC 🤘
Having tested out Debian and the DietPi-based operating systems, I now turn my attention to the Armbian community images for the Rock SBC. The review by RasPiPkr Tutorials (youtube.com/watch?v=vQ-gqPXWCU) shows YouTube playing without much trouble and also a faster-looking Graphical interface.

So I downloaded the supported image from the Armbi

  14. ✌️Using the GPIO – Rock 4SE 🤘
One of the main uses for single-board computers like the Rock 4SE is to control things through the GPIO pins. This can be simple LED control or complete motor or servo control. SBCs have long been used in robotics of all sorts - from simple four-wheeled robots to complex multi-jointed two-legged auto-balanced robots.

The GPIO pins in the Rock 4SE will allow you to use the bo

  15. Debian- WIFI Setup on the Rock 4 SE
Setting up WIFI on the Rock 4 SE is nice and quick on the Debian images as it comes with the correct libraries installed.

This guide is for people running the Rock 4 SE whilst connected to a screen, keyboard, and mouse. If you are trying to run the board in "Headless" mode, I will hopefully have another tutorial shortly.

This guide assumes you are booted up

Please see m,y update HERE and HERE for clarification on getting the WIFI working faster. Details left below for clarity to show the original issues I faced out of the box.

I have been very lucky and have been provided with a free Rock 4 SE and have been picked to be an OKdo 🤘. To test, play and find faults! There are no obligations aro

  17. @Cleoqc @derickflorian

    I sent my back.

Its 6 slower cores were 8% slower than the Raspberry Pi 4B's 4 faster cores doing non-graphical code or non-AES encryption (the ROCK4SE has hardware encryption).

Supposedly the ROCK4SE graphics chip is faster than the Pi4B chip - I didn't test that as my interest was as a Pi4 replacement in the GoPiGo3.

ROCK4SE idled 60degC same heatsink (inverted, processor is on bottom), idles at 45degC.

SPI is dev1 not dev0 - not code compatible

  19. Ok - it seems if you try and boot with a lan cable attached it bricks. With no LAN and a fresh flash - I get it working.

  20. @gadgetoid Ok, even tried a 2nd encase I had somehome broke the first - still nothing on HDMI out.

I am going to flash Debian to see whats-what

  21. So - rcade retro boots and seems to work when the is connected to a 1080p HDMI screen/monitor. But not 4k

  22. Ok, good news my 1080p Work monitor is letting it boot to display much better!

  23. Ok - more signs of life on the second SD card. I saw a welcome screen for about 10 seconds, then it flashed off. Nothing since. Even a reboot did not bring it back.

the is connected to a 4k TV screen via HDMI high-speed cable. Outputs Debian and Android fine.

  24. Well, the first flash and boot provided nothing output on the HDMI. Lots of flasshing on the status light, but all flash no substance.

Flashing to a different SD and trying again.

  25. Ok I shall be testring our rcade as I found an image for that that is indicated to work on the
