“This is a landscape worked by humans, a place of dams and cairns and clay pits. But when we reached the high point of the walk near Brown Heath, we could see, laid out before us to the north, the territory of another animal: Wulfgar the black fox.”
I wrote about walking with G on Dartmoor, and about one of my favourite books set there: Black Fox Running by Brian Carter.

I generally avoid politics on social media, but this is close to my heart. If you live in the UK, please consider signing this petition to introduce greater freedom to access the "wilder" parts of our landscape:

Landowner’s supreme court case threatens Dartmoor #WildCamping victory
The right to wild camp on #Dartmoor is under threat again after the supreme court granted permission for a wealthy landowner to bring a case against it.
Last year, the Dartmoor National Park Authority won an appeal against a decision to ban wild camping on the moors.

There is a 100m stretch between a right of way and National Trust property where the landowner has rescinded a permissive path. Alternatives are the A49, a busy road with no footpath, or backtracking several km to another, not so busy road, but narrow and also no path. I usually nip through, spotted by the owner who would not listen to reason (I think am reasonable)

Laure Battle (FT) who manages #woodland in Lincolnshire suggests the #rightoroam isn't an absolute good:
'The hard truth is that wild animals, birds, insects & plants rarely want to connect with us. Countless studies have linked human impact to a fall in the range & number of bird & animal species, and an increase in littering and erosion'; expanded interaction with nature has in itself damaged the very nature visitors wish to cherish...
some difficult choices around visitor limits look likely
