  1. Away in Goathurst Somerset researching for my new book and thought I'd have a wander. What a Lovely place. Found a gorgeous walk for tomorrow which I'm going to attempt #Hiking #walking #rambling #outdoors #books

  2. Sunrise at "The broken road" Accessed it by foot from the Mam Nick car park (grid ref: SK123832) by walking up from the top of Winnats Pass. Not a bad place to take a flask for first coffee of the day #Hiking #walking #rambling #outdoors

  3. We look forward to welcoming walkers, hikers & ramblers enjoying the King Charles III England Coast Path, and specifically the section that runs past our door, the Norfolk Coast Path.

  4. Day 6 : final day till Sunday. A 8 mile circular walk starting at Longnor, up Chrome Hill and taking in the view of the dragons Back. #Hiking #walking #rambling #outdoors

  5. Arugula is bolting due to the heatwave; I'm deliberately letting it go to seed for next year's volunteers. The little garlic in the back is... tiny. The variety of garlic does not seem to like this yard/soil. But, it survives, so it was replanted. There is spinach in there (usually gets eaten). Radishes (daikon) there are much larger than usual, they usually get eaten as shoots by the squirrels. Miner's lettuce and sorrel is my son's experiment... growing fine, but no one has eaten any yet lol. I guess I should start thinning it and mixing it with my breakfast/lunch. #gardening #rambling

  6. Choose your hiking friends wisely. Watch out for dangerous lines like :-
    1. I've found us a trail
    2. It's not very hilly
    3. It's a short one
    4. Be there soon

  10. Itʻs Monday night. My assignment + presentation is due on Wednesday night. I spent all weekend on this assignment, which I should have started 2.5 weeks ago, but I changed my topic, so it set me back 1.5 weeks. I debate dropping out of the PhD program and just working and working out. Until I win the lottery or megabucks, but then I geek out and decide to keep pushing. In a perfect world, I could pause time. #rambling #phdlife

  11. Finally the weekend – and I say finally, despite having just had a week off and only working three days this week. I was really happy to go back to work, too! And now I'm tired already.

You know what I think it is? It's just full time work is so... full time. Eight hours a day and then all the other things like parenting and Dad and making sure that plants don't die and cooking and washing up and grocery shopping, it's just so much.

And I'm not complaining about my work, which is not 'hard' in the sense of physical exertion or responsibility (if I mess up, nobody dies, and any mistakes I make are generally fixable). I love my colleagues, and my work is satisfying for the most part. But eight hour days... surely we could switch to six hour days and still manage? I feel as though the four day week isn't really getting the traction but what about a 30 hour workweek? That would be kind of great, don't you think?

  15. YouTube often gives that message "Sign In to prove you're not a bot". I do not sign in.

I restart my computer, open YT on a fresh browser and type this query: "can't sign in to YouTube they say i'm a bot". I select the top resulting video and suddenly I can watch anything I search. I use YT a lot less these days anyway, I had to watch the Bad Bunny Superbowl on someone's phone. I have my Vivaldi browser set to delete everything on closing, I'm just tidy that way. #Vivaldi #Youtube #rambling

  16. RE: mstdn.social/@calmeilles/11599

Did this again, deliberately this time, slight variation to avoid the wettest parts.

    5 miles (8.04km). 2 hours 20 minutes. 2.14mph ( 3.44kph). 81.37% of the pace Google maps suggests is average.

  17. Last walk of January, yesterday. Longer than expected, about 5 miles, about 2 hours 45 minutes. Slow. Wet. Muddy. Grey.

Did I say wet? And muddy? Very muddy!

  18. So much for #lofty claims at #rambling #Trump press conference:
"#DelcyRodríguez, a loyalist, has appeared on television and radio contradicting Donald Trump’s description of her now being president and cooperating with the US."

  19. A quotation from Ray Bradbury

Beware, Charlie, old men only lie in wait for people to ask them to talk. Then they rattle on like a rusty elevator wheezing up a shaft.

Ray Bradbury (1920-2012) American writer, futurist, fabulist
“The Time Machine” [Colonel Freeleigh] (1957)

  23. Good morning. ☕😃👍

    9 January 2025

I think I'm going to just ramble this morning: Hmmm ... do I ever not ramble?

I replaced the battery in my lawn mower a couple of days ago. I had to leave the house to go find a new battery, which I found at the dealership. That is pretty much the extent of my social life, when I come face to face with other people because I need something from the store or elsewhere. That may sound sad, but I like the solitude. There was a time when I enjoyed getting out there, but those times are long gone. I stay as busy as I want, there are always things to do but only if I want to do them. I did invite somebody over yesterday ... a plumber.

“I feel like I could do anything. The world is my oyster. If I ate oysters, which I don't. My family's vegetarian. But you know what I mean.” - Maulik Pancholy, The Best at It
