  1. Anyone out there use a heat pump water heater? Our utility co has a $1600 rebate. Rheem 80 ga heat pump only (120V). $2500, but $900 after rebate. Yearly savings makes the turn around time less than 2 years. Seems worth it unless i hate it. Thoughts? #Rheem #heatpump #waterheater

  2. @jerzone

I bought a pack of 22 ga stranded wire made by Haerkn with high temperature and flexible silicone insulation a couple of years ago and it worked great when I repaired the solenoid assembly for the propane valve in my Rheem hot-air furnace last year.

The wire was expensive but it was easy to strip and solder and worked great for this repair.

I never think much about the furnace until it stops working in the winter!

    #Rheem MDC180

    Cons
"Noisy". About claimed volume @ 47-48dB, = to a quiet library according to my app. 🤔 It is not.

I'd hate the noise at night, but day heating on timer is only background. The 37dB brand was ~2x the $$. 🤷‍♂️

    Pros
    Makes hot water

    100% from cold in <4h

~30% the power of *my* solar HWS on its daily winter boost. Met by existing panels - unlike old solar

    No leaks

    No disturbing noises all night

  12. No, I do NOT #smegging want a thermostat with #WiFi, or which connects to the #internet in any fashion, or which is controlled by a server run by a contractor-to-the-manufacturer-that-will-close-up-shop-in-three-years or any other #stupid "#smart" features.

    I want a 7-day programmable #thermostat that can handle single-stage #AC and a #modulating #gas #furnace.

Is that too much to ask? Apparently, yes.

  32. An update to my #Rheem #furnace #motor rant...

I purchased a #replacement from Rheem. It arrived; I installed it, reconnected everything, turned the power back on, and ... the control board still showed #error 68: "incorrect #signal from #ECM".

They sent me the #wrong bloody motor, and I stupidly didn't triple-check the part number before installing it.

The motor itself is identical, just the programming is different.

Rant started here, if you missed it: mindly.social/@cazabon/1111408

  37. So of course each furnace line has a different (in my case) #Rheem #part #number for the motor, even though all of them are actually the same 1/2 HP GE motor and controller -- they've just had different #settings "blown" into them.

And if you try to use the "wrong" motor from another furnace, the control board says "no way!" and won't work.

So Rheem gets to keep #selling #parts that are #exclusive only to them, and only for one model of furnace, so they're stupidly #expensive.

  42. The team at took unprecedented liberties with the words "instant" and "hot" when describing their "Instant Hot Water" Heaters.

    Worst downgrade, ever, those.

  43. Like everything these days my has a (kinda dodgy) app. They sent me an email touting their new and improved app.
Mistake 1- didn't simply update the app via the normal update process. The instructions included "uninstall old app, click this link to get the new one".
Mistake 2- failed to mention that it was only updated for iOS.
I noticed a vague reference in the email to the app store after not finding a new version in G Play & links all sent me to Apple.
