A hanging water bag that is filled in the morning, heated by the sun during the day, and then empties into a hot water reservoir by your sink for dishes, bathing, and residual heat during the night might work.

"Noisy". About claimed volume @ 47-48dB, = to a quiet library according to my app. 🤔 It is not.

I'd hate the noise at night, but day heating on timer is only background. The 37dB brand was ~2x the $$. 🤷‍♂️

~30% the power of *my* solar HWS on its daily winter boost. Met by existing panels - unlike old solar

New #HeatPump #HotWater system installed. I should have hot water again in a couple of hours. Even better, no more squealing & vibrating the house, only about 20% the power use of my old (faulty) solar HWS on boost (zero in summer, worse than modern storage systems in winter), & no water pissing out all night!

Installation was delayed a week due to supply issues, & tbh, I'd have snapped if there'd been more delays. Those noises were relentlessly eating at my brain.

First day of winter, and what does the hot water system in this place decide to do? Pack it in after nearly ~40 years.

So tomorrow, looks like we'll be trundling up to the plumbers at Ashgrove to discuss what our options are for a new hot water system… with front-runner options looking like solar or heat pump. (Our current unit is gas, fed off bottles.)

My only concern with solar is the fact that there's quite a few solar panels on the roof already, 5 that power the servers running this Mastodon instance, and about 11 that run an inverter. A thermal solar system needs the solar panel area *plus* about 200kg of load carrying capacity.

The right battery system though, and we could just run a heat pump off our PV solar with no need to put anything new on the roof.

Promenade autour du géosite de Sog (secteur de Krysuvik). À chaque fois que je m'y rends, les couleurs ne sont jamais identiques par rapport aux fois précédentes. D'où l'envie d'y retourner de temps en temps. Pareil pour les petites sources d'eau chaude : là, on dirait qu'elles sont en train de tarir alors que cet hiver et l'an passé, les cuvettes étaient pleines d'eau boueuse en ébullition.

J'ai failli terminer la rando en t-shirt (0 vent, 3-4 C°). Observation d'une grande source d''eau chaude (100 C° dans le bassin bouillonnant et environ 40 quand elle s'écoule par des petits ruisseaux) et détection d'un secteur pour cet été via le tour de crête d'un massif de 600m d'altitude avec vue totale sur l'océan d'un côté et de plusieurs systèmes volcaniques/Hafnafjorður de l'autre.

Et là, la péninsule aura été platinée ! :yotsuba_pleased:

Considering draining and disconnecting my (methane gas) #WaterHeater for the duration of the #HeatWave. I understand it's unsafe to simply turn it off, because bacteria could grow in the stagnant lukewarm water, but removing the water should eliminate that problem. (Also apparently you're supposed to regularly drain your water heater to remove sediment from the bottom of the tank? Who knew.)
