Jeffrey Weiss' rather dense piece of #arthistory, The Popular Culture of Modern Art: Picasso, Duchamp & Modern Art (1994) argues that there was productive engagement between the #avantgarde & popular culture early C20th Paris. Focussing on #cubism, #readymades & the ballet Parade, he argues the avant-garde were dialectically embedded in (not separate from) popular expression(s). Sadly an interesting analysis often is lost in the detail(s)
